Scandal in Potsdam: Citizens demand the resignation of Mayor Mike Schubert and Social Affairs Officer Brigitte Meier

Mayor Mike Schubert (48, SPD) and his Deputy Mayor for Order, Security, Social Affairs and Health, Brigitte Meier (56, SPD), who is the head of the social affairs department in the state capital, have been the focus of a scandal involving a severely disabled toddler for many weeks, as Schubert and Meier have not been able to allocate a day-care place to the severely disabled child (4 years old) for more than 26 weeks (186 days), despite the existing legal entitlement.

In this context, citizens in Potsdam are currently calling loudly for the resignation of Mike Schubert and Brigitte Meier as mayor and councillor of Potsdam!

Yesterday, Monday 10 May 2021, citizens of Potsdam told journalists: „Mike Schubert is the most incompetent and also the most unpopular mayor of the SPD that Potsdam has ever had, and the social affairs councillor Brigitte Meier from Bavaria has done nothing useful in Potsdam since she took office! With Mike Schubert and Brigitte Meier, the SPD in Brandenburg is absolutely unelectable, because anyone who does not help a severely disabled child as an official paid for by the taxpayer has no place in Potsdam’s city hall and, as Schubert would probably like, does not belong in the Bundestag. Such SPD politicians are unelectable!“

The background to the scandal is that the Hertha Schulz House, which belongs to the Oberlin House, which recently hit the headlines because of the murder of four severely disabled people, has since 6 November 2020, despite an existing care contract, refused to provide day care for the child with multiple disabilities on the questionable grounds of the „corona virus“.
According to the parents of the severely disabled child, the Hertha Schulz House and thus also the Oberlin House (Oberlin Lebenswelten Association), represented by the theological director Matthias Fichtmüller, violated an existing contract between the parents and the Hertha Schulz House with this refusal.

In the meantime, the Brandenburg state government, through the Ministry for Social Affairs, Health, Integration and Consumer Protection (MSGIV), has clearly stated in an official answer to the member of the state parliament, Birgit Bessin, that up to the present day (10 May 2021), a closure of the care facility (Hertha-Schulz-Haus), for example on the basis of the containment ordinance, has not been initiated. To date, according to the information available from the Brandenburg state government, the Hertha Schulz House care facility has been open. There was and is no officially imposed forced closure.

Literally, the state government stated:
„The Hertha Schulz House is a residential facility for children and young people with disabilities according to Part 2 of Book 9 of the Social Code (SGB IX – integration assistance). No residential facilities for integration assistance were closed during the Corona pandemic!“

In this context, the lawyer of the Oberlinhaus, Ralf H., apparently tried to suggest in his letter of 6 November 2020 to the parents of the severely disabled child that the care contract for the severely disabled child could not be fulfilled due to the pandemic, which has now turned out to be „inaccurate“, to say the least, due to the declaration of the Brandenburg state government.

Despite many written requests from the parents of the severely disabled child, the mayor of Potsdam, Mike Schubert, together with his head of social affairs, Brigitte Meier, and the head of the department for health and social services, Uta Kitzmann, of the state capital Potsdam (the latter has appeared in the press several times in the past and is therefore considered a public figure), is responsible for the scandal that a small child with multiple disabilities can neither be supported nor receive the day care place to which he is entitled!

For information, the term „public figure“ affects the right to privacy, the admissibility of statements in reporting and the right to one’s own image.
According to the Press Act of the State of Brandenburg (Brandenburgisches Landespressegesetz – BbgPG) of 13 May 1993, last amended by Article 31 of the Act of 8 May 2018, anyone who, like Uta Kitzmann, has already appeared in the press on several occasions can also be named in relation to Section 3 „Public task of the press“, whereby the Press Act states: „The press fulfils a public task in particular by procuring and disseminating news, taking a stand, criticising or otherwise contributing to the free formation of individual and public opinion. In this respect, it fundamentally protects legitimate interests within the meaning of section 193 of the Criminal Code.“

Since Mike Schubert, Brigitte Meier, Uta Kitzmann, Matthias Fichtmüller and also Ursula Nonnemacher (Minister for Social Affairs, Health, Integration and Consumer Protection of the State of Brandenburg), have not managed for more than 26 weeks to allocate a severely disabled toddler the day care place to which he is entitled under the legal entitlement, the question must be asked: „Is Mike Schubert, Brigitte Meier, Uta Kitzmann, Matthias Fichtmüller and also Ursula Nonnemacher (63, The Greens) completely indifferent to the fate of a severely disabled toddler, is it blatant incompetence or simply moral disinterest in disabled people in general? „

Annalena Baerbock is the federal leader of the Greens together with Robert Habeck. The Brandenburg SPD is entering the federal election with the SPD candidate for chancellor, Olaf Scholz.
It remains to be seen whether Annalena Baerbock, Robert Habeck for the Alliance 90/The Greens and Olaf Scholz for the SPD consider the behaviour of Mike Schubert, Brigitte Meier (both SPD) and Ursula Nonnemacher (The Greens), to the detriment of a severely disabled child, as „normal“, or whether the SPD and Alliance 90/The Greens in general are indifferent to the fate of disabled people. In view of the 20th election to the German Bundestag coming up on 26 September 2021, this is a more than justified question in view of this scandal, since disabled people are also voters.

In any case, the citizens of Potsdam have set the bar very high for the upcoming Bundestag elections with their current demand for the resignation of Mike Schubert, as Lord Mayor of Potsdam, and Brigitte Meier, as an alderwoman, saying:
„The SPD is in no way electable for the Bundestag elections if a severely disabled child is treated in such a catastrophic way! But Schubert will cling to his chair, he gets more than 10,000 euros a month from the taxpayer and will try to sit this scandal out callously.“ Facts about the scandal: https://www.BerlinerTageszeitung.de/politik/89529-mike-schubert-brigitte-meier-ursula-nonnenmacher-oder-der-skandal-in-potsdam-um-ein-schwerbehindertes-kleinkind-und-seinen-kita-platz-2.html

We will soon report on how the parents of the severely disabled toddler, together with the well-known Potsdam lawyer Dr. Jörg-Klaus Baumgart, are taking action against the state capital Potsdam and the Hertha Schulz House to help the child get her rights, which are being disregarded in such a way by those responsible for this scandal.

We will soon report what Annalena Baerbock, Robert Habeck and Olaf Scholz have to say about the scandal of a severely disabled toddler in Potsdam and whether there may even have been failures in the duty of supervision of the Oberlinhaus in Potsdam with regard to the four recent deaths in the Tusnelda-von-Saldern House?
