Watch Brand Botta-Design Impresses With Augmented Reality App

UNO 24 one-hand watch, Botta-Design Augmented Reality App

Watch manufacturer Botta-Design presents world’s first mobile augmented reality app which allows users to view a watch from the company’s range on their own wrist.

Thanks to the integrated high-resolution camera and huge processing power of the iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, it is possible to add virtual images to an actual scene captured live on camera, a technique known as „augmented reality“.

On the basis of this technology, watch manufacturer Botta-Design from Königstein im Taunus has developed a very interesting app which allows customers to view a watch from the company’s range on their own wrist in what amounts to four dimensions.

The time and date are always displayed correctly on the virtual watch, allowing app users to familiarize themselves with the unique way in which Botta-Design’s UNO 24 one-hand watch displays the time. This 24-hour watch presents the day’s progression in analogue form. The positioning of the hand on the dial, which is divided into a day and a night section, reflects the sun’s position in the sky.
The hand completes just one full rotation every 24 hours. The moment it crosses the fine line marking the transition from one day to the next, the date jumps forward to the new day.

Botta-Design is the first company in the world to offer iOS software with this functionality, thus perpetuating a tradition of innovation that the company has upheld in the fields of design and technology for over 25 years. Back in 1986, for instance, Klaus Botta developed the unusual display principle of the UNO one-hand watch. It became a design classic and triggered a wave of copycat one-hand watches by other manufacturers, a trend that still continues to this day.

The Botta-Design app works on all Apple iOS devices running iOS 5 or higher and can be downloaded from here:

For 25 years, Botta-Design has been creating technically sophisticated high-tech watches with timeless designs. The company’s owner Klaus Botta is a physics graduate and qualified product designer. In the mid-1980s, he observed that there was a huge diversity of wristwatches, yet nearly all of them followed one and the same trend: the watches were over-cluttered with displays, exotic functions and complex decorations.
He searched in vain for a clearly designed wristwatch which performed its original function – i.e. displaying the time – in a simple and straightforward manner.

By this time, his many years of experience in product development had already reaped him international recognition in the form of various design awards.
Klaus Botta applied this clear and successful design approach to wristwatches, giving rise to a particularly high-quality wristwatch featuring an unusual method of displaying the time: the UNO one-hand watch.
The idea behind the one-hand principle is the design maxim of „reduction to the bare essentials“ – a hitherto unprecedented design approach in the watch industry. To date, Klaus Botta has won 48 design awards.

„Things become clearer when you reduce them to their bare essentials.“
Klaus Botta developed the UNO one-hand watch in line with this philosophy back in 1986. Ever since, he has been considered the inventor of the modern one-hand watch – and the pioneer responsible for inspiring a whole series of one-hand watches made by other manufacturers.
Klaus Botta has been designing and creating wristwatches for clients like Junghans AG, Bestform and Watch People since 1986. Botta-Design wristwatches have already received 48 renowned design awards, both in Germany and abroad. Some of them are exhibited in the Chicago Museum of Architecture and Design and the Museum für angewandte Kunst (Museum of Applied Art) in Frankfurt.
Watches from Botta-Design are characterized by a concentration on the bare essentials. The salient design features of every Botta-Design wristwatch are functional clarity and a high degree of technical aesthetic which is underlined by the choice of materials and the precision of the workmanship.
