Topping out ceremony at the Mátészalka site in Hungary: FLABEG Kft builds new plant for production of exterior mirrors

MÁTÉSZALKA / NÜRNBERG. The FLABEG Kft company, a manufacturer of automotive mirrors and technical glass, is re-building the factory which burned down in September 2009 at its site in Mátészalka, Hungary, and thus expanding its global capacity.
.
The start of full production is already planned for March 2012, and work on the reconstruction of exterior mirror production has been running at full power since July of this year. The successful completion of the first stage will be celebrated on Monday, 29 August 2011 with a topping-out ceremony before invited representatives of the City of Mátészalka, the District Assembly, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the managing directors of leading local companies.

The new plant will produce well over ten million mirrors per year. Thus FLABEG plans as of 2012 to produce more mirrors than was the case before the fire of 2009.

With a planned investment volume of approx. 7 million Euros in the new plant it is intended to employ more than 200 workers full-time in the future. These investments are supported in part by the Hungarian Government.

FLABEG has been producing in Mátészalka, Hungary since 2000. In September 2009 a fire broke out in the exterior mirror production unit of FLABEG Kft, which completely destroyed the plant. Thanks to its other European sites FLABEG was able to react quickly to this loss and initially divert production to other locations before moving into a rented factory in Mátészalka.

Production of interior product lines and technical glass was not affected by the fire, as they are manufactured in a separate plant.

FLABEG, founded in 1882, is an independent company with 13 locations in Europe, America and Asia. FLABEG is active in the field of automotive glass, technical glass and mirrors for solar thermal power plants, and thus in the forefront of all processes of glass refining and finishing. For nearly 130 years the company has been maintained a technical lead in its core competencies of bending and coating. As a leading manufacturer of mirrors and invisible glass covers for armatures FLABEG provides the automotive industry and technical glass field with increased safety and less stress on the roads of the world. With numerous innovations and highest quality standards FLABEG has secured a global market share of more than 50%.
