Tech starters of 2013 challenged to exceed the success of last season
Amsterdam, November 1st 2012 – Startupbootcamp Amsterdam, part of the pan-European accelerator, is going to guide ten new startups for the second season of the programme. The first season was a resounding success with eighty percent of participating start-ups securing funding within three months of Investor Demo Day. Other accelerator programmes report an average of just fifty percent of the start-ups finding funds within that time span compared to programme’s in the European Startupbootcamp network. Startupbootcamp Amsterdam is expecting the final two start-ups to secure their first funding within the next four to eight weeks. The combined valuation of participating Startupbootcamp Amsterdam start-ups in 2012 is estimated at nearly 20 million euro’s. From 1 November 2012 new tech starters can apply for a spot in the second season of Startupbootcamp Amsterdam that will begin 2 April 2013.
As well as the high investment rate and the impressive total valuation, Startupbootcamp has also made a genuine contribution to the development of Amsterdam as an innovative city. Seven international tech starters from the programme have established their offices in the Dutch capital creating a total of seventy jobs within six months.
Currently the start-ups are busy with the go-to-market of their products and services and some have also signed strategic partnerships. Viewsy, in-store tracking solution, is preparing their Dutch expansion with consultancy agency Boer
Croon. The UK start-up is also looking into the option for an international collaboration with Vodafone, Viewsy’s turnover is currently increasing by 50% each month. LayerGloss, the easy app publisher, has signed a two-year partnership with Big Balloon publishers, publisher of i.a. Nickelodeon’s Dora TV series – and will soon launch a holiday app. Also Scrap Connection is showing promising results and has traded already several tons of ’scrap metal‘ via their online trading platform.
Other startups also have paid pilots running at large corporations. Doctor Kinetic, producer of therapeutic games based on Kinect technology, will officially launch their first product during a large physiotherapist conference in the Netherlands. Poikos, owner of the FlixFit-technology, has pilots running at large online retailers in Europe and Asia and Eigenta, semantic data search and recovery, and SocialExpress, social media monitoring, have pilots running at several large Dutch corporations.
Poikos and Viewsy have both recently won the high-profile start-event ‚IBM SmartCamp‘ and have been selected to participate in the European finale of IBM SmartCamp on 13 and 14 November in Berlin.
