The contract „SylWin alpha“ was the most substantial contract for the Lindner Brasausky GmbH so far, and at the same time the largest challenge since establishment. About 450,000 m³ of scaffolding have been moved in a construction time of only six months. Lindner Brasausky fully met the high requirements and expectations concerning qualified personnel, capacities and expertise in processing.
The „SylWin alpha“ is an offshore platform which serves the wind parks 70 kilometres west of the island Sylt. The power which is generated by the wind parks is to be transformed on this converter platform and then conducted to the mainland. With a total height of approximately 80 metres (40 metres of that above water), a width of 56 metres and a length of 82 metres, it is the largest platform of its kind.
Lindner Brasausky is a specialised scaffolding company that, as a part of the owner-operated Lindner Group, which is a global leader in interior fit-out, faade construction and insulation engineering, offers both the stability and reliability of a group and the effective organisation of a specialised scaffolding company.
Scope of works.
The SylWin alpha consists of thwo elements: the „Topside“, which is the actual converter platform, and the „Jacket“, which acts as the fundament. On the platform there are apart from the technical equipment for transformation also workshops, engine rooms, living-/ and supply rooms as well as a helicopter deck. Both individual elements are constructed on transport pontoons. With these, the „Topside“ and the „Jacket“ are tugged to their destination 70 kilometres west of Sylt. There, the SylWin alpha serves as a connector to the electric grid for the offshore wind parks DanTysk and Butendiek.
Due to the fact that Nordic Yards executed all works from steel cutting to the assembly of the individual elements of the SylWin alpha in the shipyards, enormous scaffolding works were necessary. The module scaffold „RINGSCAFF“ of the firm Scafom-rux was used for putting up scaffolding around the individual segments of the platform. Around 2,500 tonnes of this modern module scaffold were used, mainly using steel planks for pipe support. During the construction period of six months the impressive amount of 450,000 m³ of scaffolding was moved. Up to 10,000 scaffolding solutions had to be put into effect by up to 100 assembly operators within a month. Noteworthy here are the extraordinarily high safety standards that applied for all assembly works.
Given the existing framework contract between Nordic Yards and Lindner Brasausky, there is nothing that opposes cooperation in future projects like the DolWin gamma, which is another offshore platform, as well as a repair- and maintenance ship and two icebreaking rescue and maintenance ships for Russia.
Future prospects.
Lindner Brasausky faces each and every challenge in order to meet customers“ wishes. Experienced staff and a large stock enable us to find the perfect solution to fulfil even the most stringent demands. A perfect example for this is our new sector industrial climbing. The first task which allowed our employees to prove their knowledge in industrial climbing was knocking off the loading hooks in the act of placing the leading system for the SylWin alpha. The second operation, putting up scaffolding around the helicopter deck of the BorWin, is also already completed successfully. In order to be able to execute such works in places that are difficult to access, employees are continuously trained to Level 3 FISAT since June 2013.
The growing importance of renewable energy shows that especially the offshore wind energy will play a major role in the future. With the participation in the construction of the platforms required for the use of offshore wind energy, a milestone has been reached. Another one will follow shortly: an operation directly on-site in the offshore area. For this purpose, our employees participate in offshore safety trainings (BOSIET) which include helicopter safety training (HEUT).
