FRIMO at JEC World and the 2016 VDI Conference „Plastics in Automotive Engineering“
Paris, March 2016 – This year, the FRIMO Group will once again present its
comprehensive portfolio of manufacturing solutions for thermosetting and thermoplastic composites at the JEC World in Paris from March 8-10, 2016.
Not only the name of the most important event for composite materials across the world celebrated its premiere this year – but also the event location: For logistically favorable reasons, the trade fair in Paris was held at the Nord Villepinte Exhibition Center, bringing it even closer to Paris“ Charles Des Gaulles airport. On an area of 62,000 m², over 1,300 companies presented their service packages.
Over 35,000 experts from 100 countries, who also asked our composites specialists at FRIMO questions over the course of the three-day trade fair, visited the event. As part of Schuler“s Composite Alliance, the company was in Paris at booth M54 in pavilion 5A to exhibit a wide range of advanced manufacturing solutions including RTM (epoxy or PUR), thermoforming/back-injected processing of organic sheets and natural fiber-PP applications.
At the same time, the International VDI conference „Plastics in Automotive Engineering“ opened its doors on March 9 and 10, 2016. This year, FRIMO was once again present, showcasing current developments across its entire portfolio of technologies as well as the corporate group, in addition to its focus on lightweight construction.
Both at the JEC World in Paris and the VDI in Mannheim saw positive results in the end: Constructive meetings were held, seeing lots of exchange and new contacts being made. Thomas Rübsam, Director of Sales FRIMO Sontra, looks back at the successful days in Paris in particular: „The JEC was once again extremely intense, and we made contact with a wide variety of customers. I“d like to take this opportunity to thank all the participants for their commitment, as well as perfect preparations and execution.“ Karl-Heinz Stelzl, who reported on the topic of Industry 4.0 at the VDI in Mannheim, was also met with positive resonance. „This year“s VDI was once again a total success. We had many interesting expert conversations on realignments and clever lightweight construction solutions in a sandwich design, among others,“ stated the Director of Technological Development.
Inter alia, the VARCITY (Vehicle ARchitectures for CITY cars) project was presented, in which a sheet metal underbody for a Jaguar is to be replaced with a CFRP variant – an especially sustainable, economic solution. For this, FRIMO developed and supplied the tool technology for the preforming and trimming as well as a close-to-production RTM tool for manufacturing the first prototypes made of CF-EP.
At the JEC World, FRIMO also presented example applications for the Organo Sheet Injection (OSI) method. This is a procedure that completes fhermoforming, trimming, and injection all in one step. With this method, FRIMO has created an innovative option to speed up the process and make it more efficient.
In addition, FRIMO showcased its new thermoform line for the forming of thermoplastic high-performance composite materials in the aerospace industry, which was put into operation in December 2015 at an official dedication ceremony for the customer AEROSOFT SpA in Italy, as well as the delivery of production equipment for production of the BMW 7 series, for which the company supplied the series tools, including cooling tools for the wet pressing.
Furthermore, FRIMO is proud of its participation in different research projects, such as SMILE and iComposite 4.0, and presented its collaboration in the different projects here as well. The joint project iComposite 4.0, which is funded by Germany“s Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), aims to develop a resource-efficient, large-scale production process for fiber-reinforced plastic components. FRIMO“s contribution to the project included an RTM tool for CFRP and a mixing and metering system for epoxy and PUR systems, as well as comprehensive measurement and evaluation technology.
Additional production and sales locations belong to the FRIMO Group, with more than 1,300 employees in Europe, Asia and America as well as numerous international representatives. The FRIMO Group was again distinguished for excellent service. FRIMO has received various SPE Awards, known as the „Oscars of the Plastic Industry“, 22 times. In 2014, FRIMO was distinguished with the JEC Innovation Award in Atlanta for the project „Street Shark“ (www.street-shark.com). The work of the FRIMO Group for the plastics processing industries includes a broad range of technologies from polyurethane processing, flexible trimming, punching, pressing and forming, thermoforming, laminating, and edge folding, as well as joining and gluing. System solutions for large-series capable processing of fiber-reinforced plastics (composite technology) are also part of the business. For this purpose, FRIMO offers its customers tailored tools, machines, and production systems as individual or complete solutions from a single source.
