Since Passenger Terminal Expo being the most important exhibition of the year for Lindner concerning the construction sector for airports, Lindner is again showcasing new products and new ways of airport design on the exhibition taking place in Geneva Palexpo building from 09th to 11th April. Lindner“s main goal is to present the latest developments to architects, consultants, main contractors and airport authorities.
In a review of 2012, one of the highlights was the project at London Heathrow T2, which demonstrated the capabilities of the Lindner Group at its best. For the exteriors 50,000m2 of facades and 22,000m2 of roofing systems were installed; for the interiors 68,000m2 of various metal ceilings, 30,000m2 of Technik Floor and 35,000m2 of wall claddings were used.
Additional highlights were the completion of Frankfurt Airport“s Pier A-Plus, where the Lindner Group executed works worth more than EUR36m, and successful projects in the Asia-Pacific region. We carried out some especially interesting projects at Mauritius, Canberra and Sydney airports, including custom-made solutions for metal ceilings. Lindner also undertook its first supply-and-fix job in India, where 120,000m2 of metal ceilings with a special powder coating designed to look like wood were supplied and installed for Mumbai International Airport. 2013 is expected to be a very exciting year too, with tenders coming up for large airport projects in the Middle East, where Lindner aims to continue its success.
Visitors of the Lindner stand can learn more about the latest developments in airport construction. Safety against terrorism plays an important role at locations where crowds of people come together, such as airports, railway stations and other public buildings. The Lindner Group has developed a special wall cladding for London Heathrow Airport Terminal 2 to provide maximum human safety. This wall system considerably reduces the risk of injury, because in the event of an explosion it does not splinter or fragment like normal walls. During an official test, the cladding system resisted a detonation of 15 kg highly explosive TNT.
Another development is genuine wood cladding called FIREwood. Most people would probably see a conflict between real wood cladding and airport safety-standard materials, but with Lindner Group“s innovative composite panel FIREwood this is not the case. Tested to building material classes A2 „non-combustible“ and B1 „hardly flammable“, FIREwood fulfils the highest safety standards, including its edge covers and coating. All kinds of wood can be used, giving architects new freedom of design for their visions. Recently 24,000m2 of American walnut wood veneer in a European airport were installed.
Furthermore, Lindner will showcase the brand-new canopy ceiling LMD-DS 360 HELIX with design edges, customizable surfaces and integrated modern LED lighting technology for the use in prestigious areas suchlike airport lounges.
Having a look in the near-term future and the main challenges as well as developments for the airport construction industry in the next five years, Lindner“s approach will be to enhance and create sustainable interior products that meet the demands of the environment. Lindner is developing a system for internal recycling in the production of high-density calcium sulphate raised floor panels at the production plant in Würzburg. The panels consist 90% of used plasterboard. A very important component of the panel is paper – approximately 5,000 tonnes of waste paper are used in Lindner“s production facilities each year. The vision of the Lindner Group is to have all the production facilities emission neutral by 2020.
