Iran invests 2 billion US-Dollars in agricultural sector

With the National Development Fund amounting to two billion US-Dollars, the Iranian agricultural sector will be supported. Against this background the International Agricultural Trade Fair, iran ago will be held from 20 – 23 May 2012. For the 19th time the exhibition is organized by Palar Samaneh of Tehran and fairtrade of Germany. The leading agricultural trade show of Iran once again takes place at the Tehran International Fairgrounds.

According to the Iranian agricultural minister, Sadeq Khalilian about 2 billion US-Dollars from the National Development Fund will be made available for developing the processing industry, fisheries, greenhouses and water and soil resources. Kahilian further states, that the agricultural sector has seen significant progress in recent years. Adding, agricultural production in the last Iranian year (ended March 20) reached about 107 million tons indicating a growth of 15 percent compared to the figure for the previous year. The main policies of the ministry are the mechanization and renovation of agro infrastructure.

Monika Schaedel, senior project manager with fairtrade, mentions: „Considering these growth figures, the upswing of iran agro is a logical consequence.“ In June 2011, 122 exhibitors from 7 countries participated at its 18th edition. Compared to 84 exhibitors in 2010, this is an increase by almost 50 percent. Schaedel believes that this uptrend will continue because, until now China, France and Turkey already confirmed their national pavilions for May 2012.

To create valuable synergies for exhibitors and trade visitors alike, iran agro 2012 takes place concurrently with iran food + hospitality (in 2011 with 462 exhibitors from 20 countries) and iran food + bev tec (313 exhibitors from 22 countries in 2011), the three dedicated events building the frame of „iran agrofood 2012“ with altogether 896 exhibitors in 2011.
