GreenPocket develops smart home app for Apple iOS 8

Cologne, 10.07.2014 – The software expert GreenPocket is currently working on a comprehensive smart home app for the latest Apple operating system iOS 8. The app is supposed to link different use cases in the fields of light, heat and security based on Apple“s standard home automation system HomeKit. A first version of the app will be presented this autumn at the IFA in Berlin.

With its HomeKit, Apple paves the way for the „Internet of Things“. The standard for controlling and regulating household appliances will be included in Apple“s latest operating system iOS 8. Based on HomeKit, all home appliances can prospectively be controlled via iPhone or iPad.

By now, enterprises are already able to develop devices and apps that are compatible with HomeKit. So far, mainly apps for the regulation of individual hardware components are planned. As the first provider on the market, GreenPocket intends to develop an extensive solution. Thus, a multitude of use cases shall be integrated in one single app, as for instance the lighting or heating control, as well as the command of motion detectors and cameras. Thereby, the user is able to control different devices from various providers through a single smart home user interface via iPhone or iPad.

Dr. Thomas Goette, CEO of GreenPocket: „The entrance of Apple marks the beginning of the smart home mass market. Now it is essential to offer innovative and convincing apps that clearly display the advantages of home automation to the user. Therefore it is important to keep the installation and handling as simple as possible and to combine a broad array of attractive use cases. This is exactly what we are going to do with our app.“

GreenPocket will present a first version of the smart home app this autumn at the IFA in Berlin. Up to now, the Cologne-based startup company primarily raised attention through the development of software solutions for utility companies and service providers such as Vattenfall and the Qivicon platform of Deutsche Telekom.
