10 years ELVeS® Radial® procedure – Studies prove excellent healing rates of biolitec procedures for coccyx fistulas and BPH – New laser fiber „Sharp tip“ specially developed for microsurgical procedures – biolitec® at Medica Hall 10 Stand H46
Jena, November 09, 2018 – The laser pioneer biolitec® set standards when it developed the ELVeS® Radial® method for the minimally invasive endovenous treatment of varicose veins and launched it on the market in 2008. The next revolution followed in 2012 with the ELVeS® Radial® 2-ring fiber, which was expanded to include two light rings that divide the laser power into two equal parts of 50% each and thus produce even more homogeneous radiation. The side effects can be reduced even further with a very high occlusion rate, further minimizing postoperative pain and ecchymosis. Since 2017, the ELVeS® Radial® 2ring slim fiber with a diameter of only 1.3 mm has been available and thus offers the possibility of treating perforating veins and side branches as well as more complicated anatomical structures and stripping relapses in addition to the larger trunk veins.
With the biolitec® therapies FiLaC® (Fistula-tract Laser Closure for anal fistulae), SiLaC® (Sinus Pilonidalis treatment) and LHP® (LaserHemorrhoidoPlasty for hemorrhoids) for proctology, biolitec® has developed innovative minimally invasive methods in which the tissue is irradiated from the inside with the laser energy and thus gently destroyed. The treatment of coccyx fistulas can achieve a cure rate of over 90% after the first treatment with the new, particularly gentle minimally invasive method SiLaC® from biolitec®. This was the result of a study carried out on 237 patients at the gastroenterological department of the University Hospital Ioannina, Greece, and published in June 2018.
About one third of all women over 30 years of age are affected by myomas. The gentle and, above all, uterus-preserving treatment of myomas is of great importance, especially for women who wish to have children. The HOLA® laser therapy by biolitec® is a gentle and effective treatment alternative by means of laser, which can be performed on an outpatient basis and under local anesthesia. Myomas can be enucleated quickly and gently with MyoFiber® glass fibers in different designs. The laser energy avoids the contraction of the uterine muscles and can therefore be used without or under minimal local anesthesia. The extremely gentle procedure with continuous irrigation with saline solution ensures a quick return to normal activities.
In urology the minimally invasive laser treatment LIFE of biolitec® with its channel technique is particularly suitable for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia in high-risk patients. Urologists at Harasanshin Hospital Fukuoka in Japan helped develop this special channel technique and operated on 26 patients who either suffer from diabetes and/or have to take anticoagulants. With the channel technique, surgery could be performed much faster than with conventional procedures – on average 1 hour – and a large cavity could be achieved without having to remove the tissue completely. Side effects such as swelling, dysuria or retention, which are particularly common in large glands, did not occur.
Already at the beginning of this year biolitec® presented its „Sharp tip“ laser fiber especially for microsurgical procedures. This needle-shaped fiber tip is the first laser fiber worldwide that can cut and coagulate without coupled or adapted separate endings. The surgeon can easily guide the glass fiber and thus in most cases completely replace the classic scalpel. This enables even safer handling compared to conventional laser systems. The „Sharp tip“ fiber is the first laser scalpel made of a homogeneous piece of glass fiber that can be used, for example, to perform slip-eye operations simply and precisely.
The biolitec® team presents at this year’s Medica in Dusseldorf at booth H46 in hall 10 not only the above mentioned innovations but also the complete range of the proven LEONARDO® laser family.
The LEONARDO® laser family includes the lasers of the LEONARDO® Dual series in 45 watt, 100 watt and 200 watt strengths, which are all characterized by the stepless use of the two wavelengths 980nm and 1470nm during treatment. These lasers are the most versatile medical lasers available on the market today. They are suitable for phlebology and proctology as well as minimally invasive surgery in urology, gynecology, ENT, orthopedics, thoracic surgery and pneumology, esthetic surgery and ophthalmology. The innovative LEONARDO® Mini completes the laser family. This device, which weighs just 900 grams, is available in a version with a wavelength of 1470 nm and as LEONARDO® Mini Dual with two wavelengths of 980 nm and 1470 nm. The small laser can also be used mobile in the established biolitec® treatment methods for venous diseases, haemorrhoids, fistulas, a broad spectrum of ENT diseases, in urology, gynecology and orthopedics.
About biolitec
biolitec® is one of the world’s leading medical technology companies in the field of laser applications and the only provider which possesses all the relevant core competences in the field of photodynamic therapy (PDT) – photosensitizers, lasers and fibre optic cables. Besides laser-supported treatment of cancers with the drug Foscan®, biolitec® researches and markets above all minimally invasive, gentle laser procedures.
ELVeS® Radial® (Endo Laser Vein System) is the world’s most-used laser system to treat venous insufficiency. The LEONARDO® diode laser from biolitec® is the first universally applicable medical laser which has a combination of two wavelengths, 980nm and 1470nm, and which can be used across disciplines. The innovative contact fibre XCAVATOR® in conjunction with the LEONARDO® DUAL 200 Watt laser allows in urology a gentle treatment of e.g. benign prostate enlargement (BPH). The light-weight LEONARDO® Mini laser weighing only 900 g was developed especially for mobile application on site. Gentle laser applications in the fields of proctology, ENT, gynecology, thorax surgery and pneumology are also part of biolitec®’s field of business. More information available at www.biolitec.com
