More and more Lyme patients and doctors use LymeCare electronic patient diary and medical app during Lyme-treatment
The treatment of chronic Lyme Disease and other tick-borne diseases similar to Lyme isn’t easy. Frequent visits to the doctor become part of the Lyme patients‘ life and cost a lot of time and energy. The BCA-clinic has been the first clinic in Europe that specialized in the treatment of tick-borne diseases and Lyme and experiences this problem every day.
This is why BCA-clinic’s medical head Dr. Carsten Nicolaus had the idea to create an electronic patient diary app to support the treatment and teamed up with SymCollect app experts to realise this.
„It’s our aim to offer the best possible diagnostics and treatment to all chronic Lyme Disease patients including this patient diary“, BCA’s Dr. Nicolaus explained. „In the 21st century we should use digital / telemedicine and ehealth like apps and patient diarys etc. to optimize treatment. The Lyme Disease patient can log daily updates of their health status and symptoms into the app. This is a great support, especially for those who suffer from chronic illnesses and for us, their attending physicians.“
What makes LymeCare unique as medical app and patient diary app and online diary is the Lyme patient’s direct line to professional medical assistance with an integrated patented traffic-light system that sends an automated alarm to the doctor when critical parameters are reached in the patient’s diary database based on the data in the app.
Data-protection in ehealth and telemedicine is also a great concern of SymCollect’s CEO and founder Bernhard Ammann. „Our telemedicine system meets all requirements of the German Data Protection Act. We use a two-step data protection concept to ensure our users‘ anonymity and to prevent unauthorized access.“
All participants have reviewed the medical app positively. Dr. Nicolaus concludes „medical professionals get an objective overview of the patient’s progress while Lyme Disease patients are motivated to support their healing process as they can use this patientdiary app or online version to track their symptom progress or setbacks.“
What’s remarkable is that now over 1,000 users have signed up for the highly specialized Lyme app. Bernhard Ammann notes that „of course, you can find a lot of fitness and health apps on the market. But considering how specialized our app is, this number of app users not just from BCA clinic shows, that a lot of patients have been waiting for this kind of option. If we can help these patients, it’s a great success.“
Patients can download the LymeCare-app for free from the website or directly from the App Store on the Apple IPad or IPhone. Medical offices and hospitals pay a monthly fee for their backend access per Lyme patient. The system of this app including alarm system could easily be adapted by the SymCollect team for other chronic or long term illnesses on request, founder Bernhard Ammann tells.
