Ermenegildo Zegna opens a new Global Store in London

Ermenegildo Zegna opens a new Global Store in London

Ermenegildo Zegna Global Store Facade (Source: @Ermenegildo Zegna)

London, 10 November, 2016 – Ermenegildo Zegna unveils its latest Global Store in London at New Bond Street, home to the world“s most prestigious luxury brands. The New Bond Street Global Store is the 19th Peter Marino Concept Store to open globally and features 605 square meters of luxury retail space, divided across four floors.

Unique to this store, which is located in the same position as the very first Ermenegildo Zegna boutique in London, opened in 1987, is a stunning facade honoring English heritage and blending seamless with the historical architecture of London“s New Bond Street. The facade“s use of red and grey marble in various shades provides a sense of depth, while the characteristic red bricks that line the upper part of the facade, the bow-windows facing New Bond Street and the vintage bar from the 1950s come together in a heartfelt tribute to British culture.

Capturing the spirit of the Ermenegildo Zegna brand, metal strands are used in the two windows representing the warp and weft yarns of a loom, architectural sheep heads are placed on the window keystones and the bas-relief is inspired by the sheep heads at Villa Zegna in Trivero (Italy). The new Global Store also reflects the brand“s longstanding commitment to social and environmental well- being in terms of its eco-sustainability.

The store has been designed to create a virtual journey through the world of Ermenegildo Zegna, transmitting both the history and DNA of the company, along with the complete range of its luxurious menswear collections. As customers enter the Zegna World on the ground floor, they are surrounded by the dark and natural tones of the entrance and the wide selection of textile accessories, refined leather goods and licensing products. The rich tones of the entrance compliment the bright color palette of the new concept area specifically designed by Peter Marino to host Zegna’s ready-to-wear collection where casual- tailoring and luxury sportswear harmoniously merge. This space, a novelty for Peter Marino concept stores, is characterized by polished rosewood with a rusticated design and cerused ashwood in ivory. The new concept experience continues on the first floor where light colors prevail and the walls are lined in cerused ashwood and three-dimensional plaster. Dedicated to informal clothing and accessories, the area and its furnishings, including Afra and Tobia Scarpa armchairs and a sofa, bask in the natural light of the external windows.

As clients move to the second floor, the staircase functions as the central circulation and is also a visual focal point featuring a floating, open design with ebonized oak tread tops and beneath, suspended polished metal rods resembling textile stands are backlit by LED lights. The second floor mirrors the sophisticated and classic tailoring of Ermenegildo Zegna formalwear as customers are greeted with a luxurious space designed to reflect the elegance of impeccable garments. The same floor also hosts the Ermenegildo Zegna Couture collection in a dedicated area where the expertise and traditional heritage of the brand meet the industrial world through the skillful use of exclusive materials, such as gouged mahogany, ivory plain oak and parchment or black oil- quenched steel, within an ivory color palette.

The third and final floor is divided into two distinct zones, both of which are enhanced by the prominent bow-window facing New Bond Street, together with the golden fireplace in light marble and the vintage bar from the 1950s, all evoking the feeling of a British gentleman“s club. Featuring precious artwork that
reflects the brand’s heritage and consistent support for the arts, this floor is home to the exclusive Su Misura service, the ultimate Zegna offering, and has been furnished to create a very intimate and private space.

The New Bond Street Global Store is also home to artworks by Giovanni Caccamo and Frank Thiel that portray a part of Zegna’s history, such as the photo by Caccamo of Oasi Zegna, the natural park surrounding Trivero, or are a reference to a key element of the brand“s DNA, such as the looms which are featured in Thiel’s piece. Yet it is the tapestry Dare / Avere (2016) by the South-African artist William Kentridge that catches the eye as customers enjoy the intimacy of the Zegna experience. Specifically commissioned by ZegnArt to be permanently displayed inside the New Bond Street Global Store, the 250 x 360 cm tapestry made with mohair threads is an interpretation of the history and values of Ermenegildo Zegna; a snapshot of the company“s centennial progress, captured by sewing together arts, traditions, places, experiences and gestures that will immediately intrigue the observer.

The London flagship follows openings in Milan, New York, Osaka, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Beverly Hills and Tokyo and is the result of the fruitful partnership between Zegna and architect Peter Marino, whose design reflects the brand“s quality materials, integrity and modern style throughout the space. Of exceptional note is New York’s Fifth Avenue Global Store, which won the American Institute of Architects New York State Merit Award for Architecture in 2008.

BRAUN HAMBURG: FALL/WINTER – NEW TRENDS

BRAUN Hamburg starts the fall/winter season with wider silhouettes, earthy tones and combined patterns. Sartorial elegance is still a big topic for the new season. Casualwear and sportswear also remain very important.

BRAUN HAMBURG: FALL/WINTER - NEW TRENDS

Hamburg, 27 September 2016. After the last RTW collections, many designers show wider silhouettes, more relaxed cuts and earthy tones again. Classic patterns like check and wide stripes are complemented with new patterns that can be beautifully combined.

Velvet and suede are the fabrics for the evening but they can definitely be considered for the day. Colours like black, grey, navy, brown, red and burgundy as well as shades of purple supplement the natural palette of the collections – sunny yellow and orange are small highlights.

At Pitti Uomo in Florence, Lars Braun talks to Monocle Magazine: „Our customers become more and more flexible every day. One day, they ask for a cashmere jumper at an entry-level price, and then they will buy a cashmere coat for EUR5,000 to go with it. Apart from that, we still notice the biggest growth with casual wear.“

Sartorial elegance is however still a big topic for the new season. Slim-fit suits are matched with oversized coats – material blends and patterns are ubiquitous. A 70’s influence becomes apparent through double-breasted and jersey jackets in earthy colours.

Casualwear and sportswear remain an important topic. Clean sneakers are a key element for all the looks. Pleated chinos and jersey fabrics become more and more relevant – silhouettes become wider here as well, leg openings remain narrow however. Camouflage plays a major role and is to be found in numerous collections.

WOOLRICH X BRAUN HAMBURG: LIMITED EDITION EXCLUSIVELY FOR BRAUN HAMBURG

Hamburg, 22 September 2016 – The two historic companies BRAUN Hamburg and WOOLRICH look back on more than 20 years of successful collaboration. Just like BRAUN Hamburg, the WOOLRICH brand represents the highest standards in terms of quality and expertise. WOOLRICH has always focused on clothing that appeals not only with its performance but also with its aesthetics. Thus, they create well-balanced collections for customers who go in for quality as well as trends – just like the BRAUN Hamburg customers.

To mark this long-standing liaison, the companies decided to design a new version of the fur-free variant of the iconic WOOLRICH Arctic Parka. The Arctic Parka NF is a milestone in the company“s history since it is the first of its kind not sporting the fur trim – therefore the „No Fur“ name.

„We are very proud to be able to offer this unique parka to our clients, with only 50 pieces worldwide. It is exclusively available at our shops and our online shop. For me, particularly the cashmere-lined hood in combination with the extremely light-weight outer material is something really special – it is just perfect for the Hamburg winter,“ Lars Braun comments.

Compared to the classic style, the limited edition Arctic Parka NF uses so-called Teton Canvas as its outer material. This fabric is remarkably light, only weighing 219 grams per square meter. At the same time, it is waterproof and breathable. The combination of a newly designed, shapeable, cashmere-lined hood and the special outer material of the BRAUN Arctic Parka NF aims at ensuring maximum protection against adverse weather conditions. The limited edition is exclusively available at BRAUN Hamburg and comprises only 50 pieces.

Fall/winter season 2017/18

Be inspired! New ideas for attractive textile surfaces

Fall/winter season 2017/18

The metallic thread METY play a major role and surprise with new geometric shapes

GUNOLD GmbH presents new and unprecedented new colors and structures at the PVA in Paris in hall 4 at booth B26 from September 13-15, 2016. For the fall/winter season 2017/18 ideas are inspired by nature or seem to be rather technical in structure, a touch of luxury included. The great diversity of innovative threads developed by the German thread specialist has truly reached a new dimension

Discover a variety of organic shapes inspired by nature bearing a resemblance to stones minerals, sea plants or wood. GUNOLD uses matt threads such as wool-like FILAINE and cotton thread COTTY together with the metallic threads from the METY collection adding accents rich in contrast. Novel, seemingly tech-inspired effects, fascinate thanks to innovative three-dimensionality. Here the viscose thread SULKY, the shiny foil thread GLITTER and the metallic thread METY play a major role and surprise with new geometric shapes. Imperfection, random constructions and irregular shapes add a touch of luxury and present a new way of showing the multifaceted variety of high-quality threads from GUNOLD. Viscose, cotton, polyester as well as metallic threads are all being used and are sometimes enhanced or framed by the luxury threads POLYMET and FILAMET

„We are looking very much forward to this year“s fall edition of the PVA“, Head of Marketing Stephan Gunold remarks. He and his team are well prepared for this important fair in Paris. „We really did go all out to create new ideas for thread variations.“ For the first time these presented at the PVA to inspire designers to create new unusual surface designs for the fall season of 2017/18, and last but not least to highlight a new perceived value of textiles. For this GUNOLD will bring along the following thread novelties:

FILAMET / POLYMET
Gunold offers the two thread innovations FILAMET and POLYMET for customers under the motto „Create your own color scheme“. Designers may select one color each from the color cards of the wool-like thread FILAINE with its 129 different shades and from the metallic thread METY with its 38 different shades to create their very special individual thread. – FILAMET – The same is true for the polyester thread POLY with its 300 different shades and METY. – POLYMET. Thus there are almost no limits to the variety of combinations.

COTTY
This pure cotton thread impresses with its matt structure and is always the right choice if, for example, a typical „handmade“ look is desired
Since cotton is in high demand for the current fashion trend „back to nature“, GUNOLD now offers additional 64 new trend colors, which are available in strengths 30 and 12 together with a new special color card.

CRY
For the first time GUNOLD presents CRY, an innovative reflective thread that consists of a polyamide core encased by thousands of microscopic glass beads. Retro-reflection is the magic word. Retro-reflection occurs when a reflective material returns the impinging radiation to the direction of the radiation source, largely independent of the direction of the reflector. Reflective appliques , seams and embroidery designs are visible from afar and not only serve the protection of the wearer , but also produce fascinating effects in the dark

More Embroidery Thread News

The successful foil thread GLITTER (a polyester / polyethylene blend ), which comes in shades of gold , silver , red, blue , green and multicolor is now available in a 6000m make-up and thus considerably cheaper. GLITTER allows fascinating shiny effects for impressive embroidery and breaks light like a hologram – ideal for large-scale designs in the clothing and accessories.
The metallic thread METY (a metal coated polyester/polyamid thread) adds shimmering effects in glamorous gold and silver tones to any project. 30 coloured shades also ensure colorful diversity-. It adds a stylish touch to everything, from clothing to home textiles or precious accessories.
The trendy wool-like thread FILAINE is the expert for rustic embroideries with that
typical needlework look and despite its fine woolen structure FILAINE is extremely robust during processing and particularly convincing through high tear and rub resistance

– ‚A TRIP IN A BAG’ – THAT IS FINEST QUALITY, NORDIC CASUAL CHIC AND SUBTLE ELEGANCE, ALL PACKED UP IN A CARRY-ALL. INSPIRED BY THE SYLT HERITAGE, 04651/ IS AT HOME AT THE SHORLINES OF THE WORLD. THE NEW COLLECTION REPRESENTS A LOVE OF THE SEA AND A

04651/ PRESENTS NEW SPRING/SUMMER 2017 COLLECTION

Sylt – 7 July 2016. „A trip in a bag“ is the philosophy of 04651/. Finest quality, a particular closeness to nature and a touch of luxury, all packed up in a carry-all to spend a weekend on the most beautiful of all the islands of the North Sea. 04651/ represents quality, Nordic casual chic and subdued elegance, paired with understatement and traditional values, all refined with a pinch of luxury.

The new collection is all about the particular closeness to nature, the love of the sea and that touch of luxury that subtly pervades the collection. It is a fierce commitment to the Sylt heritage: not bold but much rather a quiet kind of luxury: 04651/ stands for the pureness beneath the polished surface and a new kind of luxury that is quiet and subdued, close to nature and telling its very own tale.

„It“s perfect for a quick getaway without the need to think much about what to pack in your carry-all,“ says brand manager Matthias Garske. „The collection has everything you need for a weekend by the sea.“
There are relaxed linen shirts and trousers, Bermuda shorts, polo shirts, sweat wear and jersey shirts with a texture as well as beachwear, swimshorts, cashmere knit and linen and jersey jackets. The abstract pattern of Frisian tiles runs a thread through the collection as a statement print. It represents the Nordic heritage that can be developed further to be at home at the shorelines of the world, just like the pattern itself. It is used for swimshorts, polo shirts and now also on sneakers, part of the 04651/ collection for the first time, as well as for the linings of light summery down gilets that feature neoprene inserts, and fold-up nylon windbreakers that can be kept away in their own integrated pouch. A new interpretation of the classic Frisian raincoat is the highlight of the collection. The colour scheme runs from sandy beige to crisp shades of white and grey as well as a deep night blue. Cashmere and merino are again from Biella, Italy, where they are made into the finest summer knits. The cuts remain timeless as ever: modern without being too fashionable.

All in all, there are lots of new accessories: a three-day weekender bag as well as one for a five-day trip for the small and not-so-small little getaways; there are light scarves, a beach bag and a beach towel that can be stored in an integrated pouch, as well as belts, sneakers and summery moccasins. All of them feature numerous little details for you to discover, such as the t-shirts with inside labels that feature a tab for hanging them on to a beach chair or parasol.

„When I think of Sylt, I think of beautiful beaches, the North Sea and this unique attitude towards life that for me exists only there. People spend lovely holidays on Sylt and treasure their memories dearly,“ says Lars Braun about his collection. „04651/ is a coastal collection that can be at home at the shorelines of the world, inspired by the most beautiful of all the islands of the North Sea,“ he adds.

Hexlox opens a new world in bicycle security.

HEXLOX magically turn ANY existing bolt on ANY bicycle into a security bolt, in 3 seconds. Total protection for Saddles, Wheels & components is here.

Hexlox opens a new world in bicycle security.

Berlin, Germany, 4th April 2016 – Hexlox, a specialist in bike security and urban trends, launched its revolutionary new lock on Kickstarter 16th of March. After only 2 days they reached 100% funding and they are currently on 370% of their 20k goal.

„In the past, it has been difficult, inconvenient and impossibly to properly protect your saddle, wheels and other components from theft“, says Marcus Tonndorf, CEO of Hexlox. Hexlox solves this problem elegantly with its next generation patented lock and key system.

The Hexlox works by simply inserting it into an already existing bolt on a bike. It blocks the insertion of a standard tool and has ultimately secured the part of the bike that the bolt is holding. To remove the Hexlox just use the numbered key. It“s that simple.

The lock has been tested against all standard theft attacks and has even undergone a serious opening attempt by a member of Berlin Lockpicking Society. It remained safe and unopened.
Hexlox comes in all standard sizes to fit all bolts on any type of bike.

Selected Product of the Show by one of Germanys largest online bicycle components retail companies at Taipei Cycle Show 2016.

Hexlox was also on show during Berlin Fahrradschau (Berlin Bike Week) and received huge amount of interest.

The interest from Bicycle manufacturer in regards to pre-installment and also the direct interest from bike shops and distributors world wide has been enormous.

30 years of the UNO one-hand watch

30 years of the UNO one-hand watch

30 years of the UNO one-hand watch by Klaus Botta

Established 30 years ago, Botta-Design may still be a relatively young watch brand – yet it has already gone down in history, as company founder and owner Klaus Botta developed the world“s very first one-hand wristwatch back in 1986. The UNO (https://www.botta-design.de/en/einzeigeruhr-uno-plus-alpin.html).

Global success thanks to the one-hand principle

In the mid-1980s, Klaus Botta was struck by the increasingly cluttered appearance of most watch dials – rather than improving readability, this had precisely the opposite effect. He vowed to counter this trend with a fundamentally simplified approach to displaying the time.

He soon realized that just one hand is really needed to show the time, so long as the scale is adapted accordingly. This is the same principle used in measuring instruments.
Klaus Botta then designed the UNO“s typical one-hand scale, which nowadays can be found on virtually all Botta one-hand watches – as well as on the one-hand watches of other manufacturers.

Impressively, the layout of the original UNO“s dial that was designed by Klaus Botta remains essentially unchanged to this day.
While the finer details of the scale and the single hand continued to be optimized over the years, the basic logical principle remained the same – and is instantly recognizable in every UNO watch.

Turning a simple watch case into a design object

When designing the watch case, Klaus Botta consistently applied the principles of minimization wherever this made good design sense.
From the original UNO right up to the UNO Titan – the most recent version – all UNO watches boast a circular case basically comprised of an emphatically flat cylinder. Rather than being added onto the watch case as is usually the case, the lugs are incorporated into the structure of the case. This clever design feature gives the case a far more harmonious appearance, even on slimmer wrists.

The UNO exhibits an all-round logical and consistent design, which makes it look like a perfectly crafted sculpture from all angles.

High quality of design and material

Alongside the design details, the materials, technology and workmanship have also been continuously optimized.
Nowadays, the cases of Botta-Design wristwatches achieve the same high technical standards that are normally found only in exclusive Swiss brands. This is partly because our watches are produced in Germany, where – incidentally – watches are also manufactured for the Swiss watchmaking industry.

While the first UNO had to make do with the materials that were commonly used at the time, such as a chrome-plated brass case with mineral glass, today“s design classic boasts a whole host of high-tech materials and technologies:
stainless steel or titanium case (with or without PVD coating)
domed sapphire glass on both sides, which is made even more striking and transparent by double-sided anti-reflective coating
Swiss-made movements with up to 25 jewel bearings
Designed, developed and manufactured in Germany
Direct and personal customer advice, service and support from Botta-Design“s engineers and designers.

Unexpected success

Together with his then distribution partner „WatchPeople“, Klaus Botta initially had a first batch of his UNO one-hand watches produced in Pforzheim.
The watch was an immediate success, which surprised not only Klaus Botta himself but also his then business partner and co-owner of the WatchPeople brand. This man was Manfred Brassler, these days known principally for the Meistersinger watch brand he established in 2001.

In no time at all, the UNO became WatchPeople“s best-known and most successful model. When WatchPeople was sold in 1999, Klaus Botta regained the rights to the UNO model.

The Botta-Design brand is born

Since the Botta-Design team was already responsible for conceptualizing, designing and developing the watch models, production in and around Pforzheim could continue.
The team then began selling the watches through wholesalers abroad and retailers in Germany, as well as directly from their Königstein base via the company“s website www.botta-design.de

Every successful product has its imitators

By its own account, Botta-Design identified some 350 concept copies of the UNO one-hand watch on the market during research it conducted recently. The likenesses range from more or less imaginative interpretations to virtual 1:1 copies.

Klaus Botta appears unperturbed by this trend. After all, copycats merely confirm how attractive the concept is.
„Of course there are much cheaper concept and design copies, but they never attain the quality of the original. What is more, it is hardly possible to surpass the consistency and clarity of the multi-award-winning original in design terms.
Or at least, no-one in the last 30 years has succeeded in doing so,“ says Klaus Botta with justified pride.

Looking back to the past and ahead to the future

In the past, the team of designers from Königstein has repeatedly surprised the watch-buying public with interesting new concepts, including for example the UNO 24, a 24-hour one-hand watch, and the NOVA, the „advanced“ 12-hour one-hand watch.

The team at Botta-Design, the pioneer of the one-hand watch, is again working on a whole host of innovative concepts for the future. As Klaus Botta has announced, these will include not only novel one-hand models but also watches with several hands. Significantly more importance is also to be attached to mechanical watches by the innovative team from Königstein, says the company“s founder.

BOTTA-Design. A Pioneer in Single-Hand Watch Design

Klaus Botta’s design philosophy has had a considerable influence in the watchmaking industry. Introduced in 1986, his UNO watch was actually the very first single-hand watch worldwide. Chronographs by BOTTA-Design have long since become classics and are on display in the world’s most renowned museums. More than 50 international awards are proof to the exceptional level of expertise in design. The entire collection including more mechanical and quartz-controlled wristwatches has been developed and designed at the company’s headquarters in Königstein. All watches are produced in specialized factories in Germany to ensure highest quality and longevity.
