Friedberg/Germany, October 17th 2018. Tichawa Vision GmbH is represented at this year’s Vision show with an innovation. The expert for high-precision CIS sensors for quality control of industrial products presents the CIS product family based on the Diamond Sensor for the first time. With a line rate of up to 1,000 kHz, the award-winning CIS sensor enables extremely fast scanning for web inspection of high-speed processes. At booth 1H42 in hall 1 Tichawa will also show live demonstrations of the VTCIS with integrated white balance and the award-winning VDCIS with a working distance of 60 mm and a depth of field of 15 mm. The Vision will take place from 6th to 8th of November 2018 at the Stuttgart Exhibition Center.

The Contact Image Sensors (CIS) from Tichawa have been established on the market as an alternative to conventional line scan cameras as industrial scanners for demanding inspection tasks long ago. Due to the continuous further development of its CIS sensors for industrial quality control the Friedberg-based manufacturer will again be represented at Vision 2018 with a novelty. For the first time, it will present the CIS product family based on the Diamond Sensor chip.

Advantage using innovative technology

The main features of the sensor, which scans at a line rate of up to 1,000 kHz, are a pixel array with high signal pre-processing (Correlated Double Sampling CDS plus on-chip linearization) and around 1,000 ADC stages (Analog Digital Converter) with downstream serializers. The sensor also features 17 LVDS drivers, each with 622 Mbaud for total data rates of over 10 Gbaud. Even at extreme web speeds of 21 m/sec (1,260 m/min), which are common e.g. in vacuum coating, the CIS achieves a high resolution of 1,200 dpi. The correlated double scanning results in a dynamic range of over 60 dB with ADC resolution of up to 13 bits for density measuring in the printing industry. The Diamond Sensor also supports the ROIs (Regions of Interest) function for extraction of the relevant image content.

More CIS sensors in action

In addition, Tichawa will demonstrate the recently launched VDCIS and VTCIS models at its booth. The VDCIS is specially designed for the surface inspection of highly profiled objects. It enables a working distance of up to 60 mm from the test object to the sensor window and at the same time offers a depth of field of 15 mm. The slim and very compact sensor is available in switchable resolution (250 to 1,000 dpi) and with RGB and monochrome (black/white) illumination combinations.

The VTCIS with integrated white balance can also be seen live. In terms of compactness and scanning speed, it is one of the market-leading camera systems for quality control. The VTCIS has an outstanding line rate of up to 30 kHz. It is able to change its resolution (300, 600, 1,200dpi) and illumination (monochrome/RGB) during operation. This allows different views of parts of the same object with switchable resolutions and colors, even at high transport speeds and scanning widths.

Friedberg/Germany, 5 October 2018. The live demo of the award-winning VDCIS places Tichawa at the centre of its first appearance at glasstec 2018. At its booth D37 in Hall 12, the high-tech company from Friedberg, Germany, will present the high-precision CIS sensor for industrial quality control of glass, wood, plastic, metal and ceramic products as well as food and blister packaging. For the first time Ticahwa Vision presents also the VTCIS with integrated white balance for roll-to-roll print applications. glasstec will take place from 23 to 26 October 2018 at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre.

glasstec is the most important trade fair for the glass industry. Companies from all over the world present their latest trends and innovative technologies in the field of glass processing. „The fair is the ideal platform to present our latest industrial scanners for the inspection of glass products to the trade audience and to show them live ,“ says Dr. Nikolaus Tichawa, Managing Director of Tichawa Vision GmbH. „The demands on the quality of glass products are increasing. VDCIS: High-speed inspection with Depth of Field of 15mm
Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the Vision Systems Design Innovators Award Gold winning VDCIS live in action. Tichawa designed the VDCIS especially for the surface inspection of highly profiled objects as well as products made of glass, wood, metal, plastic and ceramics. Special features: The VDCIS enables a working distance of up to 60 millimetres from the test object to the sensor window. At the same time, it offers a depth of field of 15 millimeters. This enables the CIS sensor to look deep to the products. For example, it can inspect the imprint on glass bottles, cans and other curved surfaces.

Due to its slim and very compact design, the VDCIS can be quickly and easily installed in machines saving efforts, time and cost. The sensor is available with scan widths starting with 300 to 1,800 millimeters. The VDCIS with switchable resolution (250 to 1,000 dpi) is available in RGB and monochrome (black/white) illumination combinations.

VTCIS: Integrated white balance for roll-to-roll print applications
The VTCIS, is one of the market-leading camera systems for quality control in terms of compactness and scanning speed. Due to the outstanding line rate of up to 90 kHz and a scanning speed of up to 20 m/s, the VTCIS is particularly suitable for high-speed inspection processes. It is available with a scan width of 260 to 1960 millimeters. The VTCIS provides excellent sensor geometry with a wide range of illumination options. The sensors can switch resolution and illumination (monochrome/RGB) during operation. This allows a different viewing of parts of the same object with different resolutions and colors, even at high transport speeds and scanning distances.

Friedberg / Chicago, 5th April 2017. At this year“s Vision Systems Design Innovators Awards, Tichawa Vision won Gold for their new VDCIS Industrial Scanner. The VDCIS, a high-precision CIS (Contact Image Sensor) intended for industrial quality control, convinced the jury with its outstanding qualities and its high level of innovative energy. Dr. Nikolaus Tichawa, CEO of Tichawa Vision received the award personally at the Automate 2017, the largest trade show for automation technology in North America.

VDCIS impresses with outstanding qualities
Tichawa Vision received the prestigious award for its newest product, the VDCIS Industrial Scanner. The CIS system is designed for the surface inspection of food products and blister packaging as well as products made of glass, wood, metal, plastics and ceramics. Its special feature, a CIS sensor, has increased the depth of field to 16 Millimeters from the previous 0,5 to 15 Millimeters. „It enables the CIS sensor a more in-depth view“, explains Dr. Nikolaus Tichawa. „It can determine, for example, whether any pills are missing in the packaging, or inspect the prints on cans, bottles and other cylindrical objects.“

Due to its very compact design, the VDCIS can easily be installed into production machinery at minimal expense. The sensor can be equipped with an optional scanning width of 300 to 1.800 Millimeters. The VDCIS comes with an adjustable resolution (500 to 1.000 dpi) as well as the lighting combinations RGB and monochrome. „With its outstanding qualities the VDCIS product range can tap into completely new areas of application like the inspection of food products, loose goods or Direct-to-Shape-Prints“, explains Dr. Nikolaus Tichawa-

Friedberg, 4th October 2016. As highlight on the Vision 2016 Tichawa Vision GmbH will be exhibiting a new CIS-Contact Image Sensor with improved functions. The CIS-Sensor, which will be displayed in Hall 1 at Booth H42, has the ability to inspect food and blister packagings, as well as products made of glass, wood, metal, plastic and ceramics with a resolution of 300 dpi and a depth of field of 10 mm, instead of the previous 1,5 mm. The specialist for high-precision CIS-Sensors based in Friedberg has additionally increased the working distance from 10 to 60 mm. The Multicolor CIS is another innovation which Tichawa will be presenting at their booth at the trade show. The industrial scanner intended for demanding inspection tasks in the fields of safety, digital and inkjet printing is the first CIS with adaptable resolution. In regards to compactness and scanning speed, it is the best on the market among the camera systems intended for quality control.

In the field of quality control, the Tichawa“s Contact Image Sensors (CIS) have established themselves as an alternative to conventional line scan cameras. At this year“s Vision the company will present a total of two new CIS models: a CIS sensor with improved depth of field and increased working distance as well as a multicolor CIS (8LED Colors), which Tichawa first presented to a broad expert audience at the trade show drupa in May of this year.

Higher Depth of Field, More Working Distance

The new CIS-sensor was developed especially for the inspection of food and blister packagings for pills as well as for the inspection of products made of glass, strongly profiled wood, metal, plastic and ceramics. With a resolution of 300 dpi the CIS can now achieve a depth of field of 10mm. Up till now, the depth of field merely amounted to 1.5 mm. Tichawa was also able to increase the working distance of the new CIS from the standard 10 mm to 60 mm at 300 dpi. At the Vision 2016, Tichawa will be displaying a prototype with a scanning width of 260 mm. The CIS-Sensor is available with a scanning width of up to 1040 mm. The CIS is available with the lighting combinations RGB and monochrome (black/white). Depending on the resolution, the line rate varies between 10 and 120 kHz.

Multicolor CIS for Printing Inspection – The Fastest of its Kind

The Multicolor CIS for quality control in the printing industry is the first CIS with adaptable resolution (1200, 600 and 300 dpi). Due to its slim design and very compact construction, the installation of the CIS-Sensor in printing machines is effortless. Due to the low distance of approximately 10 mm to the printing object being inspected, the VARICIS sensor generates a distortion-free and significantly more focused image in comparison with conventional line scan cameras, where the quality of focus noticeably deteriorates in the border areas. Additionally, the 1:1 optic enables a constant view across the entire scanning.
Thanks to the extraordinary line rate of up to 250 kHz and the scanning speed of up to 20 m/s the VARICIS is optimally suited for very fast running printing processes. The sensor is available for scanning widths from 260 to 2080 mm.

At AMB GEORG presents the horizontal machining centers of the series ultraturn MC, which processes workpieces up to 250 tons and 4,000 mm diameter. With the successful commissioning of the first machine at Siemens AG in Berlin and installation of two additional machines GEORG is the world’s only manufacturer of machining centers of this size which implements the concept of working and measuring on the same machine.

At this year’s AMB GEORG presents the new horizontal machining centers of the series ultraturn MC in virtual reality: In the „GEORG-Cinema“ visitors will be equipped with 3D glasses which allow them to experience a machine longitude up to 30 m within one`s reach.

GEORG has developed the new machining centers for complete machining of complex workpieces up to 250 t weight and 4,000 mm diameter. They are used among others for the production of turbine and generator rotors as well as for compressors.

Recently, Siemens AG has granted acceptance for the new machining center at the Berlin plant. It is the world’s only machining center for workpieces with a weight up to 180 t where machining and measuring is implemented in the same machine. It processes workpieces with a diameter of up to 4,000 mm and a workpiece length up to 10,000 mm. Siemens already owns about 20 GEORG machines worldwide.

The experience gained from the operation of the installation of the new series shows that in addition to the significant increase in the workpiece precision it results in dramatic time savings in the machining of approximately 40 percent partly because it shortens non-productive times drastically. A machine of the new generation replaces several others in manufacturing who have previously bound not only personnel for manufacturing and maintenance, but also space and capital. It also simplifies the production planning significantly, since only one machining center performs all operations.

Georg has already delivered two other ultraturn MC machining centers which will soon go into operation. The machine GEORG currently assembled at Doosan Skoda in Pilsen / Czech Republic is designed for a workpiece weight up to 140 t with a diameter of up to 3,500 mm and a maximum workpiece length of 12,000 mm.

Jan Ebener, head of sales at GEORG´s machine tool division explains why his customer has opted for the ultraturn MC: „We are the only supplier worldwide who combined turning milling and grinding on one machine for workpieces with truly gigantic dimensions in a conclusively concept. And as in the order from Siemens only we could realize the workpiece measurement on the same machine. “

GEORG currently mounted another ultraturn MC at Iskra Turbogaz in Perm / Russia. In future workpieces with a weight up to 25 tons a diameter up to 2,500 mm and a workpiece length of up to 7,000 mm will be manufactured. They required, among others for compressors and pumps for the oil and gas extraction industry. For internal machining of these components the machine features scores like the combined turning and milling as well as the editing of complex contours which does not run parallel to the workpiece central axis. GEORG delivered all three machines according to customer requirements as complete solutions including peripheral systems.

Background: Measurement without setup changing

During machining of workpieces of that magnitude in different machines were previously set four to eight hours per machine for the change between the processing steps which has often accumulated weeks and months for complex workpieces.

The novelty is that GEORG has now integrated the quality control into the production. The ultraturn MC is the world’s first machining center which uses for the diameter measuring not only a single touch probe – as always usual. Placed at the milling tower the moveable two-point workpiece measurement system works – like a big micrometer screw – with two probes and measures the workpieces directly in the machine with high precision.

While the measuring diameters or axial run-out for workpieces of up to 2,000 mm with measuring machines may take several hours to complete the integrated system requires only a few minutes. With this feature Georg is a pioneer worldwide. In addition, the measurement is automatic and no employees of other departments must be called in to help.

Friedberg, 6 May 2016. For the first time, Tichawa Vision GmbH is going to exhibit at the drupa in Düsseldorf from the 31st of May to the 10th of June. Specialized in the field of high-precision CIS Contact Image Sensors for industrial product control, Tichawa Vision GmbH is going to present its new VARICIS designed for demanding inspection tasks in the fields of digital, inkjet and security printing booth F30, hall 3. The multicolor industrial scanner is the first CIS offering adaptable resolution. When it comes to compactness and scanning speed, VARICIS is currently the leading camera system for quality control.

Adaptable resolution and space-saving design
Tichawa Vision uses the world“s largest trade show for graphic and industrial printing as an opportunity to introduce its VARICIS sensor to a broad expert audience. The sensor has been specially designed for the requirements of the printing industry. The new VARICIS sensor is the first CIS with adaptable resolution (1200, 600 and 300 dpi). Due to its slim design and very compact construction, it is possible to integrate the VARICIS sensor into printing machines without installation effort. Another advantage of the VARICIS is the constant view during the entire scanning width via its 1:1 optic. Due to its small distance of approximately 10 mm to the printing object in inspection, the VARICIS sensor generates a distortion-free and significantly focused image in comparison with conventional line scan cameras.

Nozzle Calibration
Prior to each printing job the CIS system checks if the nozzles are in the right position and if they are operative using a calibration process. If nozzles are missing or adjusted incorrectly, the user will be informed immediately and will be able to correct the mistake. The multicolor VARICIS guarantees for color stability throughout the whole printing process via its integrated liquid cooling, thereby eliminating color deviation.

Due to the extraordinary line rate of up to 250 kHz and a scanning speed of up to 20 m/s the VARICIS is optimally suited for very fast running printing processes. The sensor is available for scanning widths from 260 to 2080 millimeters.

Web Inspection and Web Break Analysis Systems for Web and Sheet Products

For the industry leading camera supplier Papertech Inc., Roptec® is now the exclusive European service partner for Papertech“s WebInspector® web inspection and WebVision® web break monitoring products. Based in the Central European city of Stolberg, close to Aachen, Germany, Roptec® provides fast and qualified service on-site.

The number of Papertech European web inspection and web analysis system installations has been constantly increasing. In order to offer faster factory certified service to Papertech“s European customers, a partnership with Roptec® GmbH was made at the end of last year that will now provide complete service support for all WebVision®, WebInspector® and TotalVision systems .

For European Papertech customers, this means that qualified engineers and technicians are quickly on-site to take care of maintenance and repairs. Furthermore, the supply of spare parts can now be handled much faster since many parts are available right from Stolberg, thus time consuming clearing formalities can be avoided within the EU. In addition, Roptec® operates a service workshop where system components can be fixed without having to be sent back to Papertech.

Roptec® offers complete project management, from pre-engineering, to installation and commissioning, up to the final acceptance as well as any after sales services. The company is now the local European contact concerning all service aspects, working closely with Papertech“s own European management and sales personnel. Besides the services offered, Roptec® also provides technical consulting on-site, such as guidance on how to upgrade existing web break and inspection systems of various manufacturers as well as information on best modification- and add-on opportunities.

Frank Rossbruch, General Manager of Roptec®, has been working for over a decade within the web- and sheet industry and understands the importance of fast service to its customers. By investing around EUR100,000 in a VQC optical measuring machine, SOLVARO has been able to improve and accelerate its quality assurance processes. „In addition to development performance, top product quality is one of the key factors for success in our sector. Our customers demand ever higher standards. With this technology, we can permanently check our quality and adjust our production processes in time as required. In this way, we ensure that we meet our customers“ increasingly rigorous quality requirements,“ explains Gerhard Bullinger, SOLVARO CEO. The VCQ checks workpieces with a maximum weight of 200 kg and maximum dimensions of 2,000 × 1,250 mm in every phase of production. In less than five minutes, the machine has completely finished checking a workpiece that measures approx. 1,000 × 1,000 mm. The robust machine is located directly next to the production machines.

The VQC uses an optical image processing system to scan the test object section by section. During the scan, the test object simply leans against a glass plate. The VQC precisely generates the actual contours of each section. Then it compares them to the nominal contours (CAD drawing) by means of superimposition. Deviations are displayed in colour. Since even minor deviations affect the look and function of the pieces produced by SOLVARO, the VQC is programmed to detect them within a range of +/-0.05 mm. „When checking our plates for the automotive sector or server cabinets, for example, we can see where the deviations are and how large they are at a glance,“ says Bullinger. An additional advantage of this quick method: detailed measurement logs make it easier to analyse defects.
