Digital length gauges by WayCon – extremely accurate and versatile

Digital length gauges by WayCon - extremely accurate and versatile

Digital Length Gauges ST and MT

WayCon Positionsmesstechnik has added digital length gauges from the HEIDENHAIN SPECTO (ST) and METRO (MT) series to its product range. The length gauges feature an outstanding accuracy of up to +/-0.2 μm over measuring ranges up to 30 mm. Waycon length gauges have many versatile applications, as the plungers can be actuated pneumatically or by the measured object. They are suitable for use in production metrology, multipoint inspection stations, measuring equipment monitoring, or as position encoders.

The digital length gauges are quick, reliable, and accurate. Their robust design and high thermal stability allows them to also be used in production equipment and machines. The SPECTO range has an IP rating of up to IP67.

Their compact structure allows for several gauges to be combined effectively to simultaneously measure different points of an object. The incremental output signal produced by the gauge can be directly connected to a PLC or the measured values can be displayed on a digital readout (DRO) on site.

Laser sensor LAH-G1 – optical distance sensors with measurement value display

Laser sensor LAH-G1 - optical distance sensors with measurement value display

The analogue laser sensor LAH-G1 is setting new standards in optical distance measurement. Thanks to its sophisticated CMOS line sensor, the LAH-G1 series gives particularly precise measurements with a resolution of up to 0.5 μm. Moreover, the series has a measurement frequency of 5 kHz and a low linearity error (< +/-0.1% of the measurement range) and is thus extremely well suited to highly dynamic processes. The LAH-G1 stands out from the other laser sensors on the market in this class thanks to its all-in-one concept. Thus, the control unit and measurement value display are integrated in the sensor head. There are four variants, covering the measurement ranges 30 +/- 4 mm, 50 +/- 10 mm, 85 +/- 20 mm and 120 +/- 60 mm. The visible red light semiconductor class 2 laser can be aligned with pinpoint accuracy to measure the distance from an object. The LAH-G1 is particularly light and suitable for the assembly of moving elements thanks to its compact shape and its plastic casing strengthened with glass fibre with protection class IP67. As well as its voltage output signal (0…10 V) and current output signal (4…20 mA), the analogue laser sensor LAH-G1 has additional functions, such as: timing, triggering, remote interlock, laser control, limit and zero-point setting and offset adjustment. The laser can be configured using the sensor“s intuitive control element directly on the device. For more information please visit: http://www.waycon.biz/products/laser-sensors/

Signal conditioner VTS-Box – for efficient measurement

Easily connected to a potentiometer for a teachable 0…10 V voltage signal.

Signal conditioner VTS-Box - for efficient measurement

Signal conditioner VTS-Box

The VTS-Box by WayCon Positionsmesstechnik is a signal conditioner, specially developed for sensors, that use a potentiometer as sensor element. The VTS-Box increases the measurement efficiency because it allows to teach the measurement range, which improves the sensor’s resolution. Another feature is the possibility to set a switching point. A typical application is the use in combination with a linear potentiometer, like for example the monitoring of cylinders in automated production processes.

The electronics inside the VTS-Box digitizes the measured cursor voltage of the potentiometer. This digital information is first processed and then transferred back into an analogue output signal, e.g. 0 to 10 V. As a result of the digitalization the measurement range can be teached and a switching point can be set. By teaching the sensor, the measurement range is reduced which leads to an improved resolution. One, or two teach limits may be set, with a reduction of the measurement range of up to 50% of the original full scale. The reduced, teached measurement range can be placed anywhere within the original full scale. The switching point can be placed anywhere within the measurement range and is independent of a teaching of the measurement range. Therefore, the switching point can also lie outside of a teached range.

Another advantage of a sensor that can be teached is the possibility to use it in different applications, because the measurement range can be adapted accordingly. There is no need to buy a new sensor every time a different range is required.

The configuration of a position sensor is easily done by using the LED button, that is integrated in the VTS-Box. The light signal of the LED indicates the menu point, that is active at the moment and gives feedback to the user, if for example the teaching process was successful.

Capacitive sensors KS – highly accurate even under difficult measurement circumstances

Capacitive sensors are used in countless applications in industry and research.

Capacitive sensors KS - highly accurate even under difficult measurement circumstances

Capacitive sensors KS

WayCon Positionsmesstechnik offers an excellent solution for measurement tasks, when high-resolution sensors are required to measure on challenging targets in difficult environments: The capacitive sensor series KS. As the target’s material and surface have no influence on the measurement, the sensors are ideal for thickness, distance, or position determination. A typical application is the quality control of precision mechanics.

Another big advantage of capacitive sensors is that they are capable to measure independent of the target’s temperature. Manufacturing tolerances of hot work pieces can be checked and even controlling the abrasion of brake discs under load is possible. The sensors are suitable for a temperature range of -50 up to +200°C. They even work in high vacuum, or in a radioactive environment. Other typical applications for capacitive sensors is the use in squeezers, motors, or climatic chambers.

The KS capacitive sensors are available with measurement ranges from 0.05 mm, up to maximum 10.0 mm. The dynamic resolution is 0.01 %.

WayCon Positionsmesstechnik also offers customised solutions. For example, the sensor head can be adapted to the target or to the measurement conditions. It is also possible to adjust the output signal of the evaluation electronics, so that the implementation into the customer’s existing system is easy.
