Botta-Design UNO 24 Plus – one-hand 24-hour watch

The entire day at a glance

Botta-Design UNO 24 Plus - one-hand 24-hour watch

Botta-Design UNO 24 Plus watch – The entire day at a glance.

Königstein im Taunus, 20 December 2016: Eight years after the first one-hand 24-hour watch was developed, Botta-Design is now bringing out a new, larger model.
Botta-Design watches are always characterized by unconventional display principles and strikingly clean design lines. For three decades, this design-oriented watch brand from the south of Germany has been enriching the watch industry with innovative concepts of the very highest quality.

A conventional watch has a dial with a twelve-hour scale and at least two hands – that“s what most people would say, at least.
Botta-Design, a watch brand based in Königstein, follows a more global philosophy.
When Klaus Botta brought out his first one-hand concept back in 1986, this was impressive proof that a single hour hand could also display the time with sufficient precision, so long as the dial and hand are designed to work harmoniously together.
The first one-hand watch of the modern era, the UNO introduced a new and amazingly simple approach to displaying the time.

Botta is convinced that the time on a one-hand watch can be told much more easily and intuitively than on a multi-hand watch. It is simply that we have become used to the time being displayed in a more complicated fashion.

24 hours – but only one hand
A day is divided into 24 hours, not twelve. Accordingly, a 24-hour display is in principle more consistent and logical than a twelve-hour one in which the hour hand has to complete two rotations each day.
The most intuitive and analogue form of presenting the time would thus involve combining the one-hand principle with a 24-hour display.
Botta-Design has already been producing a watch that does just this for eight years. The UNO 24.

Now the Königstein-based watch designer is presenting a second, larger version of this watch with a diameter of 45 mm – the UNO 24 PLUS.

The dial on this unconventional watch presents the day in a graphical analogue form. The fact that the dial is split into a light upper day half and a dark lower night half immediately catches the eye.
The single hour hand charts the movement of the sun from the earth“s perspective: at 12:00 pm it points to the dial“s zenith, at 6:00 am it is to be found at the left-hand edge of the dial and at 6:00 pm at the right-hand edge. At night it points downwards. When it crosses the date line, the date also moves forward by one day.
Thanks to the 24-hour display, each and every time of the day is completely clear. At 4:00 am the hand is to be found in the bottom left-hand corner, and in the top right-hand corner at 4 pm.
On a twelve-hour dial, by contrast, the hand would be in exactly the same position in both cases.

Architecture for the wrist
From every angle, the design features of this watch are obvious. The slightly conical watch container with its domed sapphire glass is held in place by an arched substructure with spherical surfaces. A flush baseplate rounds off the bottom part of the watch. The two-tone upper and lower sections highlight the distinction between the upper display part and the lower supporting structure.
The UNO 24 PLUS models are available with a light or dark dial, with case colours selected to match.
The watch features a Swiss-made Ronda quartz movement.

Botta-Design offers a choice of leather, rubber or metal straps.
The watches are shipped in the purpose-designed Botta aluminium cylinder.
The UNO 45 PLUS with leather strap is priced at EUR498.00.

BOTTAdesign – the pioneer of the one-hand watch
Designed in Germany, hand-made in Germany
Klaus Botta has had a major influence on the watch industry with his philosophical approach to design. Launched in 1986, his UNO one-hand watch was the world“s first wristwatch to use the one-hand principle. BOTTAdesign timekeepers have long become classics, and are exhibited in the collections of renowned museums around the world. Around 60 international awards are testimony to the high level of design proficiency. The entire collection, which also includes other mechanical watches and quartz models, is developed and designed at the company“s headquarters in Königstein. The watches are manufactured and hand-assembled exclusively in specialist workshops in south Germany. The fact that the watches are produced and serviced in Germany is your guarantee of their very high quality and durability.

UNO 24 NEO one-hand watch from Klaus Botta

UNO 24 NEO one-hand watch from Klaus Botta

UNO 24 NEO one-hand watch by Botta-Design

The UNO 24 NEO one-hand watch concept enables the 24 hours of a day to be grasped intuitively.

The UNO 24 NEO one-hand watch gives the wearer the chance to approach time in a completely new and far more conscious manner.
It presents the entire day at a glance. During the course of each 24-hour period, the single hand of the UNO 24 NEO completes just one full rotation. The watch’s special scale means that each time of day is indicated by an individual position of the precise hand.Even a fleeting glance is sufficient to show the wearer instantly and clearly how far the day has already advanced.
A delicate line marks the point of transition from one day to the next. The moment the watch hand crosses this line, the date jumps forward to show the new day.
In other words, the UNO 24 NEO indicates the course of the day in analogue form: The positioning of the watch hand on the dial corresponds to the position of the sun in the sky.

What is more, the precise scaling means that the time of day is shown with an accuracy of around five minutes – after a short period of familiarization, the wearer will be able to tell the time even more precisely. The real strength of the UNO 24 NEO, however, lies in its simple yet impressive ability to present „an entire day at a glance“ in a precise, analogue graphic form.

Until 15 December 2013, both versions of the UNO 24 NEO can be ordered at a special price from the manufacturer’s website: Botta-Design

„Things become clearer when you reduce them to their bare essentials.“
Klaus Botta developed the UNO one-hand watch in line with this philosophy back in 1986. Ever since, he has been considered the inventor of the modern one-hand watch – and the pioneer responsible for inspiring a whole series of one-hand watches made by other manufacturers.
Klaus Botta has been designing and creating wristwatches for clients like Junghans AG, Bestform and Watch People since 1986. Botta-Design wristwatches have already received 50 renowned design awards, both in Germany and abroad. Some of them are exhibited in the Chicago Museum of Architecture and Design and the Museum für angewandte Kunst (Museum of Applied Art) in Frankfurt.
Watches from Botta-Design are characterized by a concentration on the bare essentials. The salient design features of every Botta-Design wristwatch are functional clarity and a high degree of technical aesthetic which is underlined by the choice of materials and the precision of the workmanship.

Design perfected: UNO 24 NEO one hand watch from Klaus Botta

Design perfected: UNO 24 NEO one hand watch from Klaus Botta

UNO 24 NEO – a modern design classic rethought – by Klaus Botta

The UNO 24 one-hand watch concept developed by Klaus Botta is still unique, as no other watch enables the 24 hours of a day to be grasped as intuitively. Is it in fact possible to improve upon a modern design classic like the UNO 24?

Thanks to its revolutionary display principle, the UNO 24 has repeatedly won internationally acclaimed design awards and has been included in the collections of design and architecture museums.

Is it in fact possible to improve upon a modern design classic like the UNO 24?

The creative team at Botta-Design took up the challenge and went back to the drawing board to thoroughly rethink the UNO 24 display principle. A whole host of new ideas emerged during a complex design process – concerning the hand, dial, scale and use of colour – though most of them were quickly rejected. Just a few designs showed potential and were approved for the next round of the process. Ultimately, only the two most convincing concepts endured. Klaus Botta calls the result the UNO 24 NEO.

The newly designed dial gives the UNO 24 NEO models an uncluttered, poised and high-precision feel. At the same time, the 15% longer hand makes optimal use of the dial“s diameter, allowing the time to be told with greater accuracy.

The 24-hour hand and the four quadrants in the light-coloured version are accentuated in a striking orange tone, which means that the dial orientation and hand position are immediately obvious.

The latest findings of perception research were applied when designing the dark-coloured version – it has been found that the human eye reacts with particular sensitivity to the colour green in low light conditions. The striking green quadrants therefore make it easy to tell the time even when there is little ambient light. This is also facilitated by the hand, which is made of finely brushed stainless steel. It absorbs the ambient light and reflects all of it back to the wearer.

Klaus Botta also has good news for those who prefer the conventional UNO 24 models – classic designs naturally remain part of the Botta-Design range long-term.

Until 30 November 2013, both versions of the UNO 24 NEO can be ordered at a special advance purchase price that includes a EUR50.00 discount (prices start at EUR298.00 rather than the normal EUR348.00). Shipping will begin in early December 2013.

Botta-Design DUO: dual time-zone one-hand watch

Botta-Design DUO: dual time-zone one-hand watch

Botta-Design DUO world timer with dual time zones

Watch manufacturer Botta-Design from Königstein presents its latest design: the DUO dual time-zone watch with improved readability.

The multiple award-winning Botta-Design DUO world timer is the first dual time-zone watch to be based on the one-hand watch principle. When designing the watch face in 2011, the manufacturer decided to go for the maximum possible colour contrast – yellow on black.

Such a high degree of contrast allows the wearer to tell the time even at a casual glance.

Nonetheless, situations can arise when this contrast is not enough – such as in poor light conditions, for example. According to the latest findings in perception research, the human eye reacts with great sensitivity to the colour green, especially in low light conditions. To improve readability in such situations, Botta-Design has chosen this contrast colour for the new additional version of the DUO dual time-zone watch.

The quadrants and the tip of the 24-hour hand are clearly highlighted in contrast to the dark face of the watch. To make it absolutely obvious which hand is which, the striking 12-hour hand is made of finely structured stainless steel. This surface allows the hand to absorb any residual light from the surroundings and reflect it back to the wearer.

Thanks to these two measures, the wearer will be better able to tell the time, even when lighting conditions are poor. What is more, the new clever use of colour gives an overall impression of a highly precise technical instrument. From a technical point of view, the new green-black DUO is identical to the yellow-black version, which is also still available. This means that both offer benefits such as a freely and infinitely adjustable second time zone, which allows half-hour and quarter-hour time zones to be displayed.

According to the manufacturer , the new DUO will be available for shipment from the beginning of September – until then, advanced orders placed on the Botta-Design website will qualify for a 50 Euro discount on the green version of the DUO.

Watch Brand Botta-Design Impresses With Augmented Reality App

Watch Brand Botta-Design Impresses With Augmented Reality App

UNO 24 one-hand watch, Botta-Design Augmented Reality App

Watch manufacturer Botta-Design presents world’s first mobile augmented reality app which allows users to view a watch from the company’s range on their own wrist.

Thanks to the integrated high-resolution camera and huge processing power of the iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, it is possible to add virtual images to an actual scene captured live on camera, a technique known as „augmented reality“.

On the basis of this technology, watch manufacturer Botta-Design from Königstein im Taunus has developed a very interesting app which allows customers to view a watch from the company’s range on their own wrist in what amounts to four dimensions.

The time and date are always displayed correctly on the virtual watch, allowing app users to familiarize themselves with the unique way in which Botta-Design’s UNO 24 one-hand watch displays the time. This 24-hour watch presents the day’s progression in analogue form. The positioning of the hand on the dial, which is divided into a day and a night section, reflects the sun’s position in the sky.
The hand completes just one full rotation every 24 hours. The moment it crosses the fine line marking the transition from one day to the next, the date jumps forward to the new day.

Botta-Design is the first company in the world to offer iOS software with this functionality, thus perpetuating a tradition of innovation that the company has upheld in the fields of design and technology for over 25 years. Back in 1986, for instance, Klaus Botta developed the unusual display principle of the UNO one-hand watch. It became a design classic and triggered a wave of copycat one-hand watches by other manufacturers, a trend that still continues to this day.

The Botta-Design app works on all Apple iOS devices running iOS 5 or higher and can be downloaded from here:

https://itunes.apple.com/app/botta-design/id557909997

For the app to function, the marker contained in the following document is needed. Brief instructions are included:

For 25 years, Botta-Design has been creating technically sophisticated high-tech watches with timeless designs. The company’s owner Klaus Botta is a physics graduate and qualified product designer. In the mid-1980s, he observed that there was a huge diversity of wristwatches, yet nearly all of them followed one and the same trend: the watches were over-cluttered with displays, exotic functions and complex decorations.
He searched in vain for a clearly designed wristwatch which performed its original function – i.e. displaying the time – in a simple and straightforward manner.

By this time, his many years of experience in product development had already reaped him international recognition in the form of various design awards.
Klaus Botta applied this clear and successful design approach to wristwatches, giving rise to a particularly high-quality wristwatch featuring an unusual method of displaying the time: the UNO one-hand watch.
The idea behind the one-hand principle is the design maxim of „reduction to the bare essentials“ – a hitherto unprecedented design approach in the watch industry. To date, Klaus Botta has won 48 design awards.

Red Dot Award for „DUO 24“ world timer from Botta-Design

Red Dot Award for "DUO 24" world timer from Botta-Design

world timer DUO 24 from Botta-Design wins Red Dot award

Only just launched, and already an award-winner: DUO 24 world timer from Botta-Design receives the Red Dot Design Award.

DUO 24, the world“s first dual time-zone watch based on the one-hand principle has just been chosen for the Red Dot Design Award. The international jury picked out the DUO 24 for its outstanding design quality and innovative display principle. The Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen is one of the oldest and most highly reputed design institutions in Europe. The Red Dot Design Award 2012 is the 46th design award won by Botta-Design since its founding.
The Botta-Design DUO 24 world timer shows both the local time and the time at one additional time zone, using just one hand in each case.
This is the simple yet amazingly logical principle which the DUO 24 uses to give its wearer reassurance when dealing with different time zones.

The outlying main display shows the local time. Its striking 12-hour hand points to the same one-hand scale that has been used in the UNO for more than 25 years. The scale itself is mounted on a slightly inclined scale ring which guides the markings down to the lower-level 24-hour display.

The secondary display, which lies at a lower level in the dial, can show any second time zone the wearer chooses. Its delicate 24-hour hand and numbered scale are clearly distinct from the 12-hour main display.

What is more, an artificial horizon divides the inner 24-hour section into a day half and a night half, allowing the day half of the second time zone to be identified at a glance.
The DUO 24 is a dual one-hand watch for anyone who is at home in two worlds – not to mention an elegant design piece for the wrist.
