Augsburg, July 31, 2018 – With a big summer party meteocontrol GmbH celebrated its 20th anniversary with customers, partners, companions as well as employees and their families. In two decades, the former engineering office for solar technology with initially three engineers has developed into an internationally operating company with over 150 employees at 10 locations worldwide. meteocontrol is a leading supplier of independent PV monitoring systems. Around 45,000 photovoltaic systems with a total output of over 13 gigawatts are currently being monitored by meteocontrol’s VCOM monitoring portal.

„IST EnergieCom GmbH“ was spun off from „IST Energietechnik“, an engineering office for solar technology founded in 1976. It was entered in the commercial register on 13 July 1998. Four years later, the company was renamed meteocontrol GmbH. The development work at the time already focused on an Internet-based monitoring solution for PV systems. As a pioneer in the industry, meteocontrol launched the „safer’Sun“ and „WEB’log“ remote monitoring systems and received the Innovation Award of the Photovoltaic Solar Energy Symposium in 2002.

From Local Hero to Global Player
„To survive and grow in the difficult photovoltaic industry for 20 years is in itself a success story“, Matthias Haag, CTO of the long-standing customer KACO new energy, praised meteocontrol’s success at the ceremony of the anniversary celebration on July 20. „When we set off with meteocontrol back then, it were primarily idealists at work in the PV industry. Our turnover was a minor matter. What counted was to connect PV systems to the grid and promote the clean energy supply. We wanted to make the world a better place. With success – local heroes became global players.“

The managing directors and co-founders Martin Schneider and Robert Pfatischer reviewed how eventful the company’s 20-year history is. „We developed the first available measurement and analysis program for PV systems for the 1000 roofs program in Germany at the end of the 1990s. We carried out the installation and maintenance ourselves – with an old camper that was both a caravan and a workshop car. Monitoring 150 rooftop systems and retrieving the data centrally via analogue modem or telephone was a real pioneering achievement back then,“ the managing directors said with a smile.

With the establishment of the first web domain, the digital age began and the online visualization of Messe München’s 1 MWp PV system in 1998 was another milestone in the company’s history. In 2001, the delivery of ten data loggers constituted a major order – today there are around 4,500 data loggers per year. meteocontrol had reached the 1 GWp mark in monitored capacity in 2009, after another nine years it is now over 13 GWp.

Augsburg, 31. Juli 2018 – Mit einem großen Sommerfest feierte die meteocontrol GmbH ihr 20-jähriges Firmenjubiläum mit Kunden, Partnern, Weggefährten sowie den Mitarbeitern und deren Familien. In zwei Jahrzehnten hat sich das einstige Ingenieurbüro für Solartechnik mit anfangs drei Ingenieuren zu einem international agierenden Unternehmen mit über 150 Mitarbeitern an 10 Standorten weltweit entwickelt. Die meteocontrol ist führender Anbieter von unabhängigen PV-Monitoringsystemen. Rund 45.000 Photovoltaikanlagen mit einer Gesamtleistung von über 13 Gigawatt werden derzeit im Monitoringportal VCOM der meteocontrol überwacht.

Ausgegründet aus dem seit 1976 bestehenden Ingenieurbüro für Solartechnik „IST Energietechnik“ wurde die „IST EnergieCom GmbH“ am 13. Juli 1998 in das Handelsregister eingetragen. Vier Jahre später erfolgte die Umfirmierung in meteocontrol GmbH. Im Fokus der damaligen Entwicklungsarbeit stand bereits eine internetbasierte Überwachungslösung für PV-Anlagen. Als Pionier in der Branche brachte meteocontrol das Fernüberwachungssystem „safer“Sun“ und „WEB“log“ auf den Markt und erhielt 2002 den Innovationspreis des Symposiums Photovoltaische Solarenergie.

Vom Local Hero zum Global Player
„20 Jahre in der schwierigen Photovoltaik-Branche zu überdauern und daran zu wachsen, ist an sich schon eine Erfolgsgeschichte“, würdigte Matthias Haag, CTO des langjährigen Kunden KACO new energy, den Erfolg der meteocontrol beim Festakt der Jubiläumsfeier am 20. Juli. „Als wir uns damals mit meteocontrol auf den Weg machten, waren in der PV-Branche vorrangig Idealisten am Werk. Was unterm Strich herauskam, war Nebensache. Was zählte, war, PV-Anlagen ans Netz zu bringen und die saubere Energieversorgung voranzutreiben. Wir wollten die Welt verbessern. Mit Erfolg – aus Local Heroes wurden Global Players.“

Wie ereignisreich die 20-jährige Firmengeschichte war, ließen die Geschäftsführer und Mitgründer Martin Schneider und Robert Pfatischer bei ihrem Rückblick Revue passieren. „Für das 1000-Dächer-Programm in Deutschland entwickelten wir Ende der 90er Jahre das erste verfügbare Mess- und Analyseprogramm für PV-Anlagen. Installation und Wartung führten wir selbst aus – mit einem alten Wohnmobil, das Wohn- und Werkstattwagen zugleich war. 150 Hausdachanlagen zu überwachen und die Daten zentral über Analogmodem oder Telefon abzurufen, war damals eine echte Pionierleistung“, so die Geschäftsführer schmunzelnd.

Mit der Einrichtung der ersten Internet-Domain ging es ins digitale Zeitalter und die Online-Visualisierung der 1-MWp-PV-Anlage der Messe München 1998 war ein weiterer Meilenstein in der Unternehmensgeschichte. 2001 stellte die Auslieferung von zehn Datenloggern einen Großauftrag dar, derzeit sind es jährlich rund 4500 Datenlogger. 2009 hatte die meteocontrol die 1-GWp-Marke an überwachter Leistung erreicht, nach weiteren neun Jahren liegt sie jetzt bei über 13 GWp.

Marktversteher mit Herz
„Es waren 20 sehr ereignisreiche Jahre, mit guten aber auch mit harten Zeiten. Unser Durchhaltevermögen hat sich gelohnt. Das ist nicht zuletzt auch der Verdienst unseres gesamten Mitarbeiter-Teams, das enorm engagiert und freundschaftlich verbunden hinter uns steht“, resümierten Schneider und Pfatischer. Menschliche Werte im Miteinander gehören zu den wirtschaftlichen Erfolgsfaktoren der meteocontrol – im Team wie auch mit Kunden und Partnern. Ihre Anstrengungen in diesem Bereich würdigte ein langjähriger Weggefährte der PV-Spezialisten in seiner Laudatio und verlieh den Titel „exzellente Marktversteher mit Herz“.

Augsburg, June 14, 2018 – At Intersolar 2018 in Munich, meteocontrol GmbH will demonstrate just how far the monitoring and control of photovoltaic systems and solar parks have come. In this work, the world“s leading provider of independent monitoring systems has added a wide range of new features and the innovative power plant controller blue“Log X-Control to its solution. The stars of the company“s exhibition booth will be the data logger blue“Log X series and the monitoring and operation management platform VCOM. VCOM: systematically uncovering yield losses
About 45,000 PV systems around the globe with a total power output of more than 13 GWp are currently being monitored in the VCOM portal. meteocontrol is writing a new chapter in this success story by introducing a wide range of upgrades. The performance ratio and system availability can be parameterized so that operation managers can easily display contractually regulated formulas. As a way of quickly identifying small yield losses, meteocontrol has developed the actual/rated performance graphic and a heat map for string currents. Fully automated reporting has been made even simpler as well: Clearly structured portfolio reports comprehensively inform investors and stakeholders about the performance of their systems and portfolios. meteocontrol“s newly developed VCOM monitoring app for visualizations on mobile and devices also now includes solar power forecasts and performance values.

blue“Log X series: making the quality of measurement data transparent
With its major release for 2018, meteocontrol has made the blue“Log X series that has proved itself for three years more innovative and future-proof – while maintaining its high quality, performance and IT security. New functionalities provide a high level of transparency for measurement data and communications, including minute values and the recording of the communication quality between blue“Log and inverters, sensors and meters. Alarm management now includes parameters like sunrise and sunset in addition to offering efficient filter functions. „We also focused our enhancement efforts on smooth maintenance,“ said Martin Schneider, the Managing Director of meteocontrol. „This includes a lean firmware update, the simple add-on installation of driver packages, SD card replacement in case of a device defect and a configuration backup. And our individualized license model will ensure more cost efficiency.“

Plant control: blue“Log X-Control with integrated VPN client
With the X-Control – the heart of meteocontrol“s park controller – meteocontrol has developed an intelligent, ground-breaking solution. The new transparent controller core makes it possible to include the control functions in network simulation models. The X-Control also ensures that the continuously rising demands of energy providers can be met. Other enhancements assist solar trader activities that have proved effective in Germany for three years now: The integrated VPN client automatically establishes a connection to the solar trader in the blue“Log, without using an additional VPN router. Setup and the function test can be done much faster and easier. „With the help of X-Control, operators are prepared in the best-possible way for the European revision of the network codes and related changes to Germany“s medium- and high-voltage directives,“ Schneider said. „They can also work efficiently and cost effectively.“

Alarm management 2.0: heading into the future with data analytics
To further improve monitoring in the VCOM portal, meteocontrol plans to add an assistant to VCOM in the next step. At the meteocontrol booth, trade fair visitors will learn about how data analytics can help detect errors more quickly, report causes more precisely and recognize future error patterns – all in the name of „Alarming 2.0.“ „This works best in cooperation with the operation manager,“ Martin Schneider said. „User feedback is a key component for the learning system and can be integrated easily. Dafür hat der weltweit führende Anbieter unabhängiger Monitoringsysteme zahlreiche neuartige Funktionen und den innovativen Parkregler blue“Log X-Control in seine Lösung implementiert. Im Mittelpunkt des Messeauftritts stehen die Datenlogger-Reihe blue“Log X-Serie und die Monitoring- und Betriebsführungsplattform VCOM. Messebesucher erfahren zudem, mit welchen innovativen Methoden die meteocontrol künftig die Fehleralarmierung mittels Data Analytics weiter optimieren will. VCOM: Mindererträge gezielt aufdecken
Im VCOM Portal werden derzeit rund 45.000 PV-Anlagen mit einer Gesamtleistung von über 13 Gigawatt überwacht. An diese Erfolgsgeschichte knüpft die meteocontrol mit zahlreichen Upgrades an. Damit Betriebsführer vertraglich geregelte Formeln einfach abbilden können, lassen sich Performance Ratio und Anlagenverfügbarkeit parametrisieren. Um geringe Mindererträge schnell zu erkennen, hat meteocontrol die Soll-/Ist-Leistungsgrafik und die Heatmap für Strangströme entwickelt. Noch einfacher ist jetzt die voll automatisierte Berichterstattung: Übersichtliche Portfolio-Reports informieren Investoren und Stakeholder umfassend über die Performance ihrer Anlagen und Portfolios. Für die Visualisierung auf mobilen Endgeräten bietet meteocontrol die neu entwickelte VCOM Monitoring App – jetzt mit Solarstromprognosen und Leistungswerten.

blue“Log X-Serie: Qualität der Messdaten transparent gemacht
Mit dem Major Release 2018 hat meteocontrol die seit drei Jahren bewährte blue“Log X-Serie innovativer und zukunftssicher gestaltet – bei gleichbleibend hoher Qualität, Performance und IT-Sicherheit. Neue Funktionalitäten ermöglichen eine hohe Transparenz bei Messdaten und Kommunikation, wie etwa Minutenwerte und das Erfassen der Kommunikationsgüte zwischen blue“Log und Wechselrichter, Sensorik sowie Zähler. Das Alarmmanagement berücksichtigt jetzt Parameter wie Sonnenaufgang und -untergang und bietet effiziente Filterfunktionen. „Die problemlose Wartung stand ebenfalls im Fokus unserer Weiterentwicklung“, berichtet Martin Schneider, Geschäftsführer der meteocontrol. „Dazu gehören ein schlankes Firmware-Update, das einfache Nachinstallieren von Treiber-Packages, der SD-Kartentausch bei einem Gerätedefekt und ein Konfigurationsbackup. Parkregelung: blue“Log X-Control mit integriertem VPN-Client
Mit dem X-Control – Herzstück des meteocontrol Parkreglers – hat meteocontrol eine intelligente und wegweisende Lösung auf den Weg gebracht. Neu ist der transparente Reglerkern, der es möglich macht, das Regelverhalten in Netzsimulationsmodelle einzubinden. Darüber hinaus stellt der X-Control sicher, dass die stetig steigenden Anforderungen der Energieversorger eingehalten werden. Zusätzliche Erweiterungen dienen der in Deutschland schon seit Jahren bewährten Direktvermarktung: Der integrierte VPN-Client baut die Verbindung zum Direktvermarkter im blue“Log automatisch auf, ohne dass ein zusätzlicher VPN-Router notwendig ist. Einrichtung und Funktionstest erfolgen deutlich schneller und einfacher. „Mit dem X-Control sind Betreiber für die europäische Novellierung der Network Codes und den damit verbundenen Erneuerungen der deutschen Mittel- und Hochspannungsrichtlinien bestens gerüstet. Alarmmanagement 2.0: Mit Data Analytics in die Zukunft
Um das Monitoring im VCOM Portal weiter zu verbessern, plant die meteocontrol in einem nächsten Schritt, den VCOM mit einem Assistenten auszustatten. Wie sich Fehler mit Hilfe von Data Analytics schneller erkennen, Ursachen präziser ermitteln und zukünftige Fehlermuster erlernen lassen, erfahren Messebesucher am Stand der meteocontrol unter dem Motto „Alarmierung 2.0“. „Am besten funktioniert dies in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Betriebsführer. Schneller Überblick, effiziente Betriebsführung
Die Verzahnung der Systeme von viasys und meteocontrol erleichtert die technische Betriebsführung von Photovoltaikanlagen und Solarparks und macht sie noch sicherer. Wird beispielsweise das viasys-Sicherheitssystem in die Portal-Ansicht des Betriebsführers integriert, kann er zu jeder Zeit einsehen, was auf der Anlage vor sich geht und dies bis zur Zugangskontrolle exakt nachverfolgen. März 2018 – Mit präzisen Hochrechnungen und Prognosen macht die meteocontrol GmbH die Solarenergie zur planbaren Größe für Netzbetreiber und Stromhändler weltweit: Der Marktführer für unabhängige PV-Monitoringsysteme prognostiziert und überwacht die Menge des eingespeisten Solarstroms zuverlässig für einzelne Anlagen, für Netzgebiete oder landesweit. Die ausgereiften Prognoseverfahren basieren auf der Verknüpfung hochpräziser Wetterdaten mit den Ertragsdaten der über 43.000 von meteocontrol global überwachten Photovoltaikanlagen. Die meteocontrol verfügt über langjährige Erfahrung in der Überwachung von PV-Anlagen und damit über eine enorme Menge an Messdaten. Verbesserungspotenziale aufzeigen
Anhand der von meteocontrol erhobenen Daten zur PV-Einspeisung lassen sich interessante Entwicklungen und mögliche Optimierungspotentiale aufzeigen. Die aktuelle Auswertung ergibt: Deutschland konnte innerhalb der letzten drei Jahre einen nur sehr geringen Zuwachs an Solarenergie verbuchen und bleibt damit hinter dem zum Erreichen der Klimaziele notwendigen Ausbau von 2,5 Gigawatt pro Jahr zurück. Im vergangenen Jahr erreichte die eingespeiste Energie zwar einen Rekordwert, jedoch sank die maximale Einspeisung von 72,5 Prozent auf 72 Prozent. Dies ist einerseits auf schlechtes Wetter in Zeiten zurückzuführen, in der aus meteorologischer Sicht ein Maximum an Solarstrom zu erwarten gewesen wäre. Weitere Gründe sind die alternden PV-Anlagen und die damit einhergehende geringere Effizienz sowie das Einspeisemanagement der Netzbetreiber. Mit präzisen Netzprognosen und einer sehr genauen Live-Hochrechnung lassen sich Abregelungen größtenteils vermeiden, Solaranlagen sind nur selten davon betroffen. Mit einem optimierten Netzmanagement sinkt zudem die Nutzung konventioneller Erzeugungsanlagen. November 2017 – Die meteocontrol GmbH hat mit der Kon-Tek Otomasyon AS, einem der führenden O&M-Dienstleister in der Türkei, einen starken Partner gewonnen: Kon-Tek möchte ihr gesamtes PV-Bestandsportfolio und alle Neuanlagen mit dem Monitoringsystem der meteocontrol steuern und überwachen. Vier neue Solarparks sowie die Bestandsanlagen hat meteocontrol bereits mit ihren Monitoring-Komponenten ausgestattet. Die Überwachung aller Anlagen erfolgt über die zentrale Plattform VCOM (Virtueller Leitstand).

Der türkische PV-Markt hat 2017 mit rund 1 GWp neu installierter Leistung seinen bisherigen Spitzenwert erreicht. Immer größere Solar-Portfolios bedürfen einer professionellen Überwachung. O&M-Dienstleister wie das Kon-Tek Energy Department stehen vor der Herausforderung, das Monitoring für ihr stetig wachsendes Anlagen-Portfolio konsequent und effizient umzusetzen. Bei Bedarf wird neue Hardware verbaut, meist erfolgt das Umrüsten einfach und schnell durch den Import der Anlagendaten. „Das professionelle Monitoringsystem bietet Sicherheit, denn damit sinkt das Ausfallrisiko merklich und die Erträge steigen. Augsburg, November 07, 2017 – meteocontrol GmbH has won a strong partner in the shape of Kon-Tek Otomasyon AS, one of Turkey’s leading O&M service providers: Kon-Tek wants to control and monitor its entire portfolio of existing PV systems and all new systems using the meteocontrol monitoring system. meteocontrol has already equipped four new solar parks and the first existing systems with its monitoring components. All the systems will be monitored via the central platform VCOM (virtual control room).

The Turkish PV market has reached its peak value to date in 2017 with newly installed capacity of around 1 GWp. Ever greater solar portfolios require professional monitoring. O&M service providers such as the Kon-Tek Energy Department face the challenge of consistently and efficiently implementing monitoring for their constantly growing system portfolio. This calls for an independent monitoring system that is flexible in terms of the integrated components and brings together both existing and new systems in one platform.

Well positioned with monitoring from meteocontrol
Kon-Tek wants to be ideally equipped for the future with a uniform monitoring system. The PV service provider is focusing on growth: By the end of 2017, the portfolio should cover around 100 MWp installed capacity, with the target of doubling that amount in 2018. To monitor all the systems efficiently and securely, Kon-Tek is retrofitting the entire portfolio of existing systems to the monitoring solution from meteocontrol and also installing the hardware and software of the market leader for independent monitoring systems into new systems. meteocontrol has equipped four solar parks, each with a capacity of between 4 and 5 MWp, with data loggers from the blue’Log X series, set up the systems in the VCOM monitoring portal, and put them into operation. „We have experience in the Turkish market and offer special packages for unlicensed and licensed projects, in other words, systems greater than 1 MWp,“ explains Martin Schneider, Managing Director of meteocontrol. „The flexibility of our data loggers and the VCOM software with its analysis options are hugely important specifically for operation management providers like Kon-Tek. We also offer our customers the necessary engineering to ensure smooth implementation. This includes planning, design and commissioning of the entire monitoring system.“

Simple upgrading of existing systems
meteocontrol has upgraded the first existing Kon-Tek systems with a capacity of 12 MWp to the uniform monitoring system. Where necessary, new hardware is also installed, but, for the most part, the upgrade is carried out simply and quickly by importing the system data. „The professional monitoring system offers security, since the contingency risk is noticeably reduced as a result, and yields rise. That convinces investors, especially those who already know the system and appreciate the added value,“ says Martin Schneider.
