Jena, May 22, 2018 – The developer and manufacturer of medical laser systems for minimally-invasive therapies, biolitec biomedical technology GmbH, has unveiled its new online presence. A modern layout now stands for an adapted innovative website functionality and a better overview of the company’s versatile product and application areas: Thanks to the new tile design, the entire website is structured in a way that the extensive range of medical applications and laser systems of biolitec® can be recognized at first glance.

This principle of fast recognition can be found both in the subject area for doctors and for patients. This, for instance, gives doctors an immediate overview of all biolitec® lasers. For example, if the visitor clicks on the „Dual 100“ tile, he can, due to the simple depiction, see all the therapeutic areas in which this laser can be used.

The same applies to patients: The respective therapy subpages under the menu item „patients“ lead directly to the patient websites adapted to the special needs of patients, such as www.info-varicose-vein.com, which can also be accessed as independent websites.

Cold weather – hot presentations: 2nd National Osteology Symposium in Moscow

Cold weather - hot presentations: 2nd National Osteology Symposium in Moscow

National Osteology Symposium in Moskow

Back to the roots: Nine years ago the very first National Osteology Symposium was held in Moscow. The Foundation returned in October 2014 with a highly successful National Symposium and a hot programme in Moscow, already in the grip of winter.

Further information on the Osteology National SymposiaAt the National Osteology Symposium there were no signs of the icy cold prevailing outside in Russia at the end of October. 500 participants registered for the two-day event in the prestigious Lotte Hotel in Moscow from 25 to 26 October 2014 to catch up on the hottest and newest trends in oral restoration. The event held under the motto „Two inspiring days of new ideas and new friends“ was sold out.

It was the second time a National Symposium had taken place in the Russian capital. Back in 2005, the very first National Symposium of the Osteology Foundation was staged in Moscow. So the 2014 event was like going back to the Foundation’s roots.

The scientific programme entitled „Current concepts and future demands in oral tissue regeneration“ spanned all aspects of oral regeneration: current techniques in soft tissue regeneration were covered, as well as sophisticated treatment concepts for bone regeneration. Handling complications was another main topic in the scientific programme on the first day of the National Symposium.

The presentations from the national and international speakers attracted great interest among the participants, as was also reflected in the lively discussions and numerous questions. Often the time was too scarce to answer all the questions and the discussions had to be curtailed or postponed to the breaks. To avoid any communication problems between international and national participants and speakers, all presentations were simultaneously translated into English or Russian.

A further highlight of the scientific programme compiled by Chairmen Christoph Hämmerle, Switzerland, and Anatoly Kulakov, Russia, was the Interactive Forum, in which cases were firstly presented and then discussed by a team of international experts. The participants explained that they found it particularly interesting, as well as exciting, to hear different opinions and approaches from the various experts.

An „Implant Forum“ took place on the second day of the National Osteology Symposium with six further presentations from international speakers. These presentations were all organised by different sponsors from industry, yet their contents showed a high degree of neutrality and they were scientifically sound.

Various hands-on workshops were also run on the second day, true to the Osteology Foundation’s motto: „Linking science and practice“. One workshop with the speakers Christoph Hämmerle and Daniel Thoma was organized directly by the Foundation, and four others were provided by sponsors of the Symposium. All workshops met with strong interest and were very popular. Two further theoretical sponsor workshops were also very well attended.

Christoph Hämmerle and Daniel Thoma were delighted and impressed by the Osteology Workshop: „The Russian surgeons‘ skills were very good“, they reported. „Thanks to the high level of the participants, this workshop was really outstanding.“

The scientific programme was accompanied by a poster exhibition where the latest research insights were presented. Three of the posters were presented with awards by the jurors Kristian Badalyan, Russia, and Daniel Thoma, Switzerland, and the authors received the opportunity to introduce themselves and their work in a five-minute presentation on the podium.

The poster awards were given to:
– Alexey A. Mikhaylovsky
– Avtandil M. Khorguani
– Olga Eisenbraun

The National Osteology Symposium in Russia was the last in 2014 – a worthy conclusion to a successful year with great symposia in China, Columbia and Japan. And next year it continues with Germany and Italy – further information will be available shortly on the Osteology Foundation website. (http://www.osteology.org/education/national-symposia/)

The first National Symposium in Japan was held in July 2014 in Tokyo. It was a great start in this new country for the Osteology Foundation: 450 participants, excellent lectures, as well as perfect organisation and a great venue contributed to making the first symposium in Japan a complete success.

The Osteology Foundation is continuously expanding its educational network worldwide. The National Osteology Symposia play an important role in this context. Therefore, it is always an occasion to celebrate when a National Osteology Symposium is organized in a country for the first time – especially when it is as successful as the one in Japan, which took place in July 2014.

The first-class program with well-known national and international speakers attracted around 450 practitioners and scientists from all over Japan. On the morning of the first day, when a Pre-Congress Forum and a Guided Tissue Regeneration Session were held, around 350 participants were already present.

Dr. Yoshinori Nameta from Japan was excited to speak in front of such a big audience at the Pre-Congress Forum in the morning. He explained that it was a big honour for him to be invited as a speaker by the Osteology Foundation. Many of the participants and speakers at the National Symposium in Tokyo already knew the Osteology Foundation from the International Osteology Symposia, which enjoy an excellent reputation in Japan.

The theoretical workshops with the Master Clinicians Professor Daniel Buser and Professor Frank Schwarz that took place in the afternoon of the first day were also considered very valuable and interesting by the participants. During these workshops they presented indication-based flap and suturing techniques for hard- and soft tissue augmentation, and compared simultaneous and staged Guided Bone Regeneration procedures in daily practice.

The chairman, Professor Daniel Buser from Switzerland, and the two co-chairmen, Professor Fumihiko Watanabe and Professor Hideaki Katsuyama, both from Japan, had put together a program that covered all the different aspects of oral regeneration, ranging from various ridge preservation techniques to regenerative approaches for the treatment of peri-implantitis, as well as risk-factors and complications during sinus grafting procedures.

The fact that the chosen topics were interesting and relevant to the practitioners was reflected not only in the high number of questions that came from the audience, but also in stimulating discussions between the speakers and experts on the podium. They took the opportunity to discuss concepts and to share their knowledge and different perspectives. National and international speakers had the chance to learn from each other and to combine their expertise with the aim of providing the best possible level of knowledge and education for the participating practitioners, and to increase international and intercultural understanding in the field of oral regeneration.

The event was accompanied by a trade exhibition with industrial partners and sponsored from about 18 different companies. However, despite the presence of the industrial partners, the participants emphasized that they particularly liked the fact that it was an educational event that was not influenced and biased by industry. Topics such as autologous bone grafts were covered, as well as the application of different commercially available augmentation materials.

The perfectly organized National Symposium with a high-value program was definitely a great start for the Osteology Foundation in Japan, reflecting the continuously growing scientific and educational reputation of the Foundation worldwide. A story that will certainly be continued – not only in Japan!

The Osteology Foundation was established in 2003 by Dr Peter Geistlich and the company Geistlich Pharma AG in Switzerland. The Osteology Foundation aims to promote research, training and cooperation between research and industry in the field of bone and soft tissue regeneration. The Foundation has grown consistently over the last few years, and strives for constant progress in the field of oral and craniofacial regenerative medicine for the benefit of patients.

Malaysia’s cutting edge products and outsourcing services at CPhI

Malaysia continues to push hard to strengthen its presence in the EU’s Euro 225 billion plus import market.

Malaysian booth at the CPhI 2013

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 22, FRANKFURT: A total of 10 Malaysian exhibitors will be taking part at the CPhi 2013 trade fair at Frankfurt. Malaysia’s pavilion will be in Hall 4.0 D24 and is organised by the Malaysian Ministry of Health and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

According to S. Jai Shankar, the Trade Commissioner at MATRADE’s Frankfurt office, Malaysian pharmaceutical industry has moved up the value chain over the last decade. According to him currently the industry has the capacity to produce medicines in all dosage forms e.g. tablets (coated & non-coated), capsules (hard and soft gelatine), liquids, creams, ointments, sterile eye drops, small volume injectable (ampoules and vials), large volume infusions, dry powders for reconstitution and active pharmaceutical ingredients (API).

Local manufacturers have also developed and launched off-patent generics and herbal products using their own brands. Currently, the local industry is producing about 30 per cent of the domestic demand, as well as exporting to the Asia-Pacific Rim countries, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Europe. Leading Malaysian companies are also moving into the production of biologics drugs, oncology and high value-added generic compounds in-line with the growing demands in this region. 246 pharmaceutical premises with Good Manufacturing Practices certification have registered with the Malaysia“s Drug Control Authority (DCA).

According to Mr. Shankar, of these, a total of 51 premises are licensed to produce modern medicines comprising mainly analgesics, antacids, anti-hypertensive, diuretics, antibiotics and anti-histamines in the form of tablets, capsules, drops, powders, creams, ointments, injectable, syrups, ophthalmic and nasal preparations. The remaining 172 premises are licensed to produce local traditional and herbal medicines.

„Malaysia is one of the few countries in the region that have been accepted into the Pharmaceutical Inspection Cooperation/Scheme (PIC/S),“ he says. The country’s exports of pharmaceutical products received a boost, especially among the member countries, which include the EU, Australia and Canada with the admission of Malaysia as a member of the Pharmaceutical Inspection Convention and Pharmaceutical Inspection Cooperation/Scheme (PIC/S) in January 2002,

There is also growing demand for Malaysia’s expertise in production of halal pharmaceuticals and Malaysia’s halal certifications. Under the Healthcare National Key Economic Area (NKEA) sector, one of the key recommendations is to promote manufacturing of pharmaceuticals. New investments in the state-of-the-art technologies and compliance with international standards have enabled Malaysian companies to be strategic outsourcing partners for MNCs. Furthermore, Malaysia has established 27 Clinical Research Centres (CRC) to conduct clinical trials, clinical epidemiology and economic research, and manage complex medical databases.

According to Mr. Shankar, essentially these developments mean Malaysian pharmaceutical companies are more than capable of now only supplying products but also a wide-range of R&D and manufacturing services to the global pharmaceutical companies. At the CPhI, Malaysia is represented by some of its largest manufactures in the pharmaceutical industry. Details of the companies are as below:

1. Ethical, OTC and Food Supplements (all major therapeutic class and health supplements for children and adult).
2. OSD (tablet, capsule, & softgel)
3. Liquid
4. Cream

1. Ethical range covering all major therapeutic class

Blockaden in diesem Gebiet

chemmedia AG optimises online offerings of Springer Medizin

chemmedia AG optimises online offerings of Springer Medizin

In future, 326,000 physicians can use a central e-learning platform for continuing education

Chemnitz, 29th May 2012 – There are around 326,000 physicians practising medicine in Germany; most of them are subject to continuing-education requirements: over a five-year period, they must accumulate 250 CME (Continuing Medical Education) points in a variety of categories. Given the heavy workload in the field of medicine, attending training programmes in person is nearly impossible. This is why many physicians work independently to prepare themselves to earn these points, for instance by reading articles in medical periodicals and then completing online questionnaires about what they have read. Springer Medical Publishing Group [‚Fachverlagsgruppe Springer Medizin‘] offers numerous CME training units – all on a variety of online platforms up until now. To standardise its offerings while vastly expanding them at the same time, chemmedia AG has merged two platforms, CME.springer.de and CME-Punkt.de, with nearly 2 million completed training programmes, in a single, centralised learning platform, adding 1,500 e-learning courses in the process.

Platforms were merged
Using learning management system technology by market leader Saba and the KnowledgeWorker learning content management system by chemmedia AG, interactive multimedia content can be optimally created, adapted, managed and distributed. ‚This easy-to-operate learning interface brings quick results, even for people with little experience dealing with online learning modules, such as physicians in stress over continuing education requirements. Medical writers at Springer Medizin find lots of ways to expand and individualise their offerings quickly and efficiently for their target groups,‘ explains chemmedia CEO Lars Fassmann.

Scalable solution for extended use scenarios
The chemmedia AG solution was developed with continued expansion and flexible interface and customisation capabilities in mind. The scalable, Cloud-based solution can also integrate existing software systems and databases, and third-party providers‘ products as well. In future, this will also open up flexible support for new and expanded use scenarios. ‚Springer Medizin already offers a broad spectrum of specialist articles and learning media on topics relevant to continuing education – to date as pdf files and online questionnaires, with management and archiving functions. Now that the infrastructure has been updated, this will mean even more widespread use of our online offerings. Springer Medizin is also strengthening its brand through dovetailing of contents (related content). And finally, in this way we can strengthen our position as a partner to the German Medical Association [‚Bundesärztekammer‘] and professional associations‘, underscores Matthias Wissel, Managing Director New Media & IT at Springer Medizin.

‚One of the benefits of the new solution: because it can import the entire historic data, it can replace all of the legacy systems – so in addition to the desired added value, we have also fulfilled the complex core requirements‘, Fassmann adds. The substantive and formal further development of continuing education offerings at Springer Medizin takes place using the chemmedia KnowledgeWorker, which also permits integration of new learning formats. This way, authors can produce new course content using a single, central tool. ‚All of our products provide web services; this enables our customers to create a complex networking of the new system with existing processes and infrastructure – and that saves time and money‘, adds Thomas Weigel, overall project manager at chemmedia. The solution was presented at the 1st KnowledgeWorker Days, held 9th May 2012, in Chemnitz.

aycan and Chimaera Announce New Software Tool for Multi-Modal Image Fusion

aycan and Chimaera Announce New Software Tool for Multi-Modal Image Fusion
aycan and Chimaera announce partnership

Chimaera“s easy to use FusionSync? integrated into aycan“s OsiriX PRO improves diagnostic workflow

Wuerzburg, Germany, November 17th, 2011. aycan Digitalsysteme GmbH, a recognized worldwide leader in medical imaging, and Chimaera GmbH, a producer of leading-edge medical imaging software, today announced their partnership to market a new software tool for more efficient handling and diagnosis of multi-modal and follow-up medical data.

Today, diagnosis, based on follow-up image series, is often a time-consuming task due to missing data alignment and the need for manual adaptions of viewing settings. To address this issue, aycan has paired its aycan workstation OsiriX PRO, an advanced image-processing tool and DICOM PACS workstation, with Chimaera“s FusionSync, a hardware-accelerated automatic image-registration algorithm. Seamlessly integrated in OsiriX PRO, FusionSync“s fast, reliable and automatic-rigid image fusion allows users to easily view multi-modal and follow-up series together for more efficient diagnoses. Users just drag and drop two series together, then quickly navigate through large amounts of data for easy diagnosis based on spatial synchronization. Time-consuming adaptions of view settings are completely eliminated, as all viewing properties are propagated to the linked series. FusionSync currently supports three-dimensional CT, C-Arm CT, MR, PET and SPECT data.

„We found aycan“s OsiriX PRO to be intuitive and extremely user-friendly, and saw how we could further improve it by combining it with our novel FusionSync software,“ said Dr. Marcus Pruemmer, CEO at Chimaera. „FusionSync provides easy-to-use viewing and handling of follow-up series and multi-modal studies in OsiriX PRO, which greatly simplifies the necessary workflow steps for diagnosis, effectively saving time in everyday hospital routines.“

As both aycan and Chimaera develop true medical products, the partnership on this tool for OsiriX PRO was an easy fit for both companies.

„aycan is proud to work with Chimaera to add further capabilities for OsiriX PRO users,“ said Stephan Popp, CEO at aycan Digitalsysteme GmbH. „The joint solution supports our commitment to provide our customers with the most technologically advanced tools that improve their workflow, while lowering costs,“ said Popp.

Designed for post-processing and primary diagnosis, the 64-bit fast, Mac-based, vendor-neutral OsiriX PRO is a cost effective, highly functional, advanced image-processing tool and DICOM PACS workstation for conventional, multi-slice and other image reading. Based on the widely known opens source project OsiriX, aycan“s turnkey version has FDA 510(k) clearance and CE Marking with full integration service and customer support.

The new software, with appropriate medical clearances, is expected to be available in late 2012 from aycan. A beta version will be showcased on aycan“s booth #8707 at RSNA“s annual meeting in Chicago, November 27th through December 1st, 2011.
The software is not available in the U.S.A.
