Optatec 2018: CeramOptec will exhibit special fibers for laser and laboratory technology applications

Focus on glass fiber solutions for metalworking and chemical analysis

Optatec 2018: CeramOptec will exhibit special fibers for laser and laboratory technology applications

CeramOptec® Optran® UV/WF NCC fiber (Source: @ CeramOptec GmbH)

Bonn, April 4, 2018 – CeramOptec®, in cooperation with Ceram Optec SIA, an established manufacturer of multi-mode optical fibers made of silica glass, will be presenting high-quality special fibers for industrial applications in the laser and laboratory technology industries at Optatec 2018 (May 15 – 17 in Frankfurt/Main). The focus of the company’s trade fair presence will be on glass fiber solutions for metalworking and chemical analysis. The first focus of the presentation will be Optran® UV/WF NCC fibers with orthogonal (alternatively also hexa- or octogonal) core geometry. They support many traditional industrial laser applications such as cutting, welding or stripping (laser ablation), but are also suitable for various lighting applications. The main advantage of this fiber type is the active beam formation: its core geometry stimulates all optical modes and thus homogenizes the intensity distribution. As a result, Optran® UV/WF NCC fibers enable industrial laser spots with uniform surface effects and eliminate the need for costly homogenizers.

The second focus of the company’s trade fair presence will be on solarization-resistant Optran® UV NSS fibers for long-term use in the UV range. They block the absorption of UV light by carbon-stabilized defect passivation and, even after several months of UV irradiation, provide an excellent transmission performance of about 85 percent of the original transmission value. Typical applications of Optran® UV NSS fibers are fluorescence spectroscopy, photolithography and UV transillumination, as well as UV curing – for example in stereolithographic additive manufacturing.

In addition to the Optran® UV/WF NCC and Optran® UV NSS fibers, CeramOptec will also exhibit a number of other fibers from the Optran® family at Optatec 2018, as well as fanned-or fused-end glass fiber bundles. Wall projections and true-to-scale 30-cm models of different fiber types will bring the highly sophisticated technology to life for the visitors.

Interested visitors will find CeramOptec in Hall 3.0, Booth G01. As always, detailed information on the company and the products presented at Optatec 2018 is also available online at: www.ceramoptec.com.

ELVeS Radial™ laser treatment for varicose veins convinces phlebologists at UIP Conference in Seoul 2015

Unique ELVeS Radial 2ring™ fibers for varicose vein treatment proven as extremely effective on Seoul UIP Chapter Meeting 2015 – more than 800 participants from over 56 countries – clinical studies on quality and safety of the fibers excite expert audience – ELVES Radial 2ring™ and ELVeS Radial slim™ allow for effective and save treatments

Jena, 24. September, 2015 – The unique ELVeS Radial 2ring™ and slim™ fibers by biolitec were in the focus of clinical studies at this year“s UIP Chapter Meeting in Seoul, which took place from 27-29 August. More than 800 guests from over 56 countries attended the presentations of clinical studies in which the ELVeS Radial™ laser therapy for varicose veins was confirmed as an extraordinarily successful and gentle treatment.

Among the renowned speakers was Dr. Uldis Maurins, head of Maurina Vein Clinic in Riga, Latvia, who presented his studies „Technical tips for endovenous laser ablation from the Baltic“, and „Endovenous laser ablations with 1470 nm laser and radial fibers in varicose vein surgery“. In his studies, which can be found in the congress issue „International Angiology – The Journal of Vascular Biology, Medicine, Surgery and Phlebology“, Maurins explains that varicose vein surgeries with ELVeS Radial™ fibers are are extremely effective: With the 2-phase radial emission of energy through the ELVeS® fibers, the energy can be applied homogeneously to the vessel wall. Thus the vein is sealed accurately. The risk of perforating the vein wall is minimized, side effects of typical varicose vein treatments rarely occur. The ELVeS® fiber with an atraumatic fiber tip is inserted into the affected vein through a small puncture. Due to perfect view via ultrasound the fiber can be monitored and placed perfectly well.

In combination with the 1470 nm LEONARDO® laser by biolitec, ELVeS® fibers are the perfect solution for endovenous thermal ablation. The absorption coefficient of water in the vessel wall is higher when using the 1470 nm wavelength than it is with lower wavelengths of 810-1064 nm. Therefore the laser energy can be controlled better in order to avoid thermic irritations of the vessel wall. Dr. Maurins: „The ELVeS Radial™ procedure minimizes any post-operative inflammatory pain and bruising, due to a 40 times greater absorption coefficient in water compared to 810 nm-980 nm lasers targeting hemoglobin. Incompetent veins treated with ELVeS Radial™ showed a 30-40 % reduction in vein diameter one day after the procedure.“

Furthermore Dr. Maurins shows that a treatment with ELVeS 2ring fibers is also possible in the summer since wearing compression stockings may not be necessary.

About biolitec:
biolitec is one of the leading companies worldwide in the field of medical laser treatments and the only provider that possesses all relevant core competencies – photosensitizers, laser devices and optical fibers – in the field of photodynamic therapy (PDT). Besides laser-based treatment of cancer with the drug Foscan®, biolitec primarily researches on minimally-invasive and gentle laser treatments and markets them. ELVeS Radial™ (Endo Laser Vein System) is the most often used laser system worldwide for the treatment of varicose veins. In combination with the Ceralas® HPD laser, the innovative contact fiber XCAVATOR® enables a gentle treatment of e.g. benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in urology. The new LEONARDO® diode laser by biolitec® is the first universally applicable medical laser which features a combination of two wavelengths, 980nm and 1470nm, and is suitable for interdisciplinary use. Gentle laser treatments in the fields of proctology, ENT, gynecology, thoracic surgery as well as pneumology also belong to the business field of biolitec. Further information at www.biolitec.com.

Embroideries – The (Secret) Star
Demand for embroidery supplies continues to grow

This year“s TV TecStyle Vision 2014, in Stuttgart, once again lived up to the high expectations placed on this show. The trade show was part of the EXPO 4.0, a trade show association of 4 different shows for textile decoration and promotion, which took place at the Fairground Stuttgart. And by now it has proofed to be a must for all experts of this trade! Gunold GmbH, a leading global provider for high-quality embroidery materials, based in Stockstadt/M, was more than pleased with the show and was able to welcome a lot of new customers at the booth.

Predominantly from Germany, Austria and Switzerland these new customers were particularly interested in the latest additions to the product ranges of embroidery threads, embroidery backings, specialty fabrics, accessories as well as the respective embroidery solutions. Stephan Gunold, Head of Marketing, explains: „Combining our range of products with expert advice and know-how of how to work with these products we have definitely hit the mark with a lot of our customers. For more than 10 years now, we successfully conduct seminars and workshops in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In addition we publish practical know-how and assistance available in easy to understand and constantly updated embroidery pattern books.“ The goal is to encourage customers to more variety in embroidery and to inspire them to a high quality of the embroidery result.

A lot of activity on all four island demo-stations

As expected, the new laser cutter FB 500 from CadCam Technology, England was in the center of attention. As their German agent, GUNOLD presented the very compact laser cutting and engraving machine and since this type of laser is characterized by its high speed accuracy and stunning production quality it is especially attractive for small businesses as well.
Equally in the center of interest was the demo-station „Diditizing“.Massimo Baezzato from Constitch, the popular instructor for GUNOLD seminars and workshops, introduced a new concept for digitizing and was available for expert advice and for all questions regarding embroidery digitizing with Wings.
And it goes without saying that the two other demo-stations for embroidery threads and embroidery backings proofed to be central contact points as well. Stephan Gunold states: „The inviting open design of the booth certainly played a major role in attracting interested trade show visitors and we not only increased the number of people visiting our booth but we were again able to almost double the amount of new customers in comparison to the previous show two years ago. Particularly well received was our new range of pre-cut backings since this is a considerable relief in the everyday business of our customers. In addition our new range of seminars for 2014 was met with great interest and the fact that many customers now own multi-head embroidery machines, also make us feel very optimistic about the future.“

The Highlights of the TecStyle Vision 2014 at a Glance

FELTY – new in the range of specialty fabrics, FELTY is a premium felt that can be easily laser-cut and engraved. It is available in 18 different colors.

About Laser Technology

Laser is short for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. The main components of a laser are the laser active, light amplifying medium, an optical resonator, and a source of energy (flashlight). Laser-cutting is a modern processing method to work on similar work pieces as in classic mechanical processing. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Albert Einstein had already researched the functionality of lasers. The theoretical basic details of a laser machine had been worked out at that time as well. However, only during the „70s this knowledge was put to practical use. The first laser devices for material processing were launched. Today the British company CadCam Technology is a leading supplier for laser cutter and laser engraving machines. GUNOLD acts as their general agent for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. For more information, please visit www.gunold.de and www.cct-uk.com
