LumaSense Technologies introduced a new infrared imaging technology called Rel-Rad™ imaging („relatively radiometric“) that bridges the gap between single-point pyrometry and thermal imaging to deliver precise thermal images at half the cost of fully radiometric systems ( http://www.lumasenseinc.com ).

LumaSense’s Rel-Rad™ combines low-cost spot pyrometry with infrared thermal imaging technology to produce thermal images that are not fully radiometric but are „relatively radiometric“. By driving the thermal image palette through a radiometric pyrometer capable of precise temperature readings, Rel-Rad™ delivers relatively radiometric IR imaging at a significantly lower cost than fully radiometric imagers.

Infrared cameras have proven to be the ideal non-contact temperature measurement technology in extremely hot manufacturing environments, but the high cost of imaging systems is often a barrier for many customers. LumaSense’s new Rel-Rad technology makes accurate thermal imaging far more accessible, so operators can monitor an entire object or process instead of just a small portion. Through its LumaSpec R/T software suite for thermal analysis, the Rel-Rad technology can be readily integrated with existing industrial monitoring and control systems via the Open Process Control (OPC) interoperability standard for industrial automation.

The hybrid Rel-Rad thermal imaging technology is ideal for industries where it is critical to know the temperature of an object as well as uniformity across an object at that temperature. Many processes in metals and glassmaking industry using a single pyrometer to measure temperature can be improved with Rel-Rad technology, e.g. steelmaking processes like ladle preheat, torpedo car monitoring and annealing furnace operations. With the more precise temperature measurements that a LumaSense Rel-Rad thermography solution provides, the life of a pouring ladle or torpedo car can be extended by 20% and energy usage for preheat operations reduced by 10%.

This solution is the most recent addition to the LumaSpection thermal imaging product family. With its high-quality video this new mobile IR camera system helps plant operators safely, quickly, and accurately identify process abnormalities before they grow into problems that can lead to unplanned outages.

The LumaSense solution utilizes a 3.9-µm (micrometre) infrared wavelength and unique filtering to safely see through combustion flames and clearly image the interior of coal fired boilers. This new addition to the LumaSpection product family includes a BoilerSpection-IM camera with a choice of an 18″ or 24″ lens for optimal matching of the solution to an operator’s specific plant needs. Available accessories include wireless displays with digital recording and a comfortable battery backpack.

This BoilerSpection-IM thermal imaging system provides the following features: detection of pinpoint issues before they grow into problems (shorter life cycles and unplanned outages), inspect buildup of ash and slag, tune combustion and manage fuel switching, safe monitoring at full load, one person operation, industry leading image quality, wireless digital video recording (DVR), robust optics (without cooling for most inspections). Typical applications of the mobile infrared camera system for boiler tube and furnace inspection are inspecting for slag and clinkers on superheat pendants in e. g. power boiler burning PRB coal, characterizing shape and length of burner fuel mixing and imaging coal stream from wall fired burner. Operators can survey the furnace to identify tube leaks, guide cleaning maneuvers, and tune the combustion. BoilerSpection-IM is also a critical tool to analyze and verify the effects of process and equipment changes.

Ballerup (Denmark), October 11, 2012 – LumaSense Technologies, Inc. has released the new Innova 1314i Series for industrial manufacturers to continuously monitor and improve process efficiencies. The new interfaces of the highly reliable photoacoustic gas monitoring solution enable users to connect their gas monitoring system via either USB (to connect the monitor directly to a PC) or via Ethernet for remote control to reduce, eliminate and prevent process inefficiencies ( http://lumasenseinc.com/EN/products/gas-monitoring/gas-monitoring-instruments/photoacoustic-gas-monitor-innova-1314i.html ).

The measurement system of the Innova 1314i is based on the photoacoustic infrared (IR) detection method capable to measure almost any gas that absorbs infrared light. LumaSense’s new gas analyzer can be used in a wide range of applications such as photoacoustic spectroscopy for monitoring gases and vapors (IR-based spectrometer), process quality control measurements to trace impurities in pure gas production, occupational health and safety measurements of possible production or accumulation of toxic/carcinogenic substances in working areas, monitoring of ethanol content in vehicle exhausts, monitoring of NH3 and N2O and others, or emission monitoring of exhausts from chemical processes, NH3 in stacks, scrubber efficiency and filter break-through.

For sequentially monitoring air samples from up to 24 different locations, Innova 1314i is expandable with one or more Innova 1309 Multipoint Sampler using the 7860 LumaSoft™ Gas software for multi-point gas monitoring. In addition to the new interfaces, an OPC server (included within the 7860 LumaSoft™) offers easy access to the latest gas measurement on any PC. The instrument requires no consumables, very little regular maintenance and minimum calibration. Excellent gas selectivity without interference from water vapor and other gases is achieved through the use of optical filters. The 1314i provides detections limits typically in the ppb range without any interference from temperature and pressure fluctuations. High reliability of measurement results is ensured by regular, automatic self-tests.

Over the past 25 years, photoacoustic gas measurement technology has been widely used by industrial and chemical manufacturers, environmental regulators, and researchers to optimize efficiency by high precision measurements. InfraRed hat in Duisburg eine Logistikimmobilie mit einer Größe von rund 14.000 Quadratmetern vermietbarer Fläche erworben.

Das Objekt ist hervorragend an die Autobahn und die Innenstadt angebunden und liegt in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Großmarkt. Es verfügt über ein Grundstück mit einer Größe von etwa 30.000 Quadratmetern, welches mit rund 14.000 Quadratmetern vermietbarer Fläche bebaut ist, davon rund 11.500 Quadratmeter Logistik- und etwa 2.500 Quadratmeter Bürofläche. InfraRed übernahm das bisher vom Eigentümer selbst genutzte Objekt im Rahmen einer Triple-net Sale und Leaseback Vereinbarung über 15 Jahre.

In den letzten zwei Jahren erwarb InfraRed Capital Partners in Großbritannien und Kontinentaleuropa mehr als 600.000 Quadratmeter an Lagerflächen. Im Juni 2012 veräußerte InfraRed das 100.000 Quadratmeter große Amazon-Logistikzentrum in Dunfermline, Schottland, für welches InfraRed die Entwicklungsfinanzierung bereitgestellt hatte. Santa Clara, California, March 14, 2012 – LumaSense Technologies, Inc. has introduced a new line of highly configurable thermal imaging cameras specifically designed for use in harsh environments ( http://www.lumasenseinc.com/EN/products/thermal-imagers-detectors-and-cores/stationary-thermal-imagers/stationary-thermal-imagers.html ). The MC320 line for infrared thermography features uniquely configured optics and detectors that enable the cameras to be tuned to specific infrared wavelengths and optimal performance to best suit a particular application. This flexibility means the MC320 platform is a cost-effective solution for a wide range of applications including process control, predictive maintenance, safety and critical vessel monitoring.

The majority of industrial thermal IR cameras on the market are long wave cameras operating in the 7-14 micron wavelengths, which are best suited to applications with lower temperatures and in environment without interference. Mid-wave cameras operating in the 3-7 micron spectrum are particularly effective for seeing through interference such as flames and also perform well when measuring the temperature of highly reflective materials such as glass and plastics, but historically have used exotic and expensive detector materials.

The new thermal imager platform MC320 for non-contact temperature measurement supports the widest range of mid-wave VOx based cameras available on the market today applying application specific wavelengths and temperature ranges. Each stationary thermal imager model is tuned to perform in the most demanding industrial applications providing the best sensitivity and thermal image quality (thermovision) available in this price range measuring on metal and ceramics, on non-metal surfaces, through flames and hot gases, and glass surfaces with typical applications in monitoring vessels and furnaces, rolling processes, rotary kilns, and quality monitoring in glass production.
