September, 2015 – The unique ELVeS Radial 2ring™ and slim™ fibers by biolitec were in the focus of clinical studies at this year“s UIP Chapter Meeting in Seoul, which took place from 27-29 August. More than 800 guests from over 56 countries attended the presentations of clinical studies in which the ELVeS Radial™ laser therapy for varicose veins was confirmed as an extraordinarily successful and gentle treatment.

Among the renowned speakers was Dr. Uldis Maurins, head of Maurina Vein Clinic in Riga, Latvia, who presented his studies „Technical tips for endovenous laser ablation from the Baltic“, and „Endovenous laser ablations with 1470 nm laser and radial fibers in varicose vein surgery“. In his studies, which can be found in the congress issue „International Angiology – The Journal of Vascular Biology, Medicine, Surgery and Phlebology“, Maurins explains that varicose vein surgeries with ELVeS Radial™ fibers are are extremely effective: With the 2-phase radial emission of energy through the ELVeS® fibers, the energy can be applied homogeneously to the vessel wall. Thus the vein is sealed accurately. The risk of perforating the vein wall is minimized, side effects of typical varicose vein treatments rarely occur. The ELVeS® fiber with an atraumatic fiber tip is inserted into the affected vein through a small puncture. Due to perfect view via ultrasound the fiber can be monitored and placed perfectly well.

In combination with the 1470 nm LEONARDO® laser by biolitec, ELVeS® fibers are the perfect solution for endovenous thermal ablation. The absorption coefficient of water in the vessel wall is higher when using the 1470 nm wavelength than it is with lower wavelengths of 810-1064 nm. Therefore the laser energy can be controlled better in order to avoid thermic irritations of the vessel wall. Dr. Maurins: „The ELVeS Radial™ procedure minimizes any post-operative inflammatory pain and bruising, due to a 40 times greater absorption coefficient in water compared to 810 nm-980 nm lasers targeting hemoglobin. Incompetent veins treated with ELVeS Radial™ showed a 30-40 % reduction in vein diameter one day after the procedure.“

Furthermore Dr. Maurins shows that a treatment with ELVeS 2ring fibers is also possible in the summer since wearing compression stockings may not be necessary.
