Augsburg/Dubai, 07/31/2017 – meteocontrol GmbH, a leading provider of independent photovoltaic monitoring systems, is the monitoring partner for Phanes Group who is currently delivering Phase I of Dubai’s largest distributed solar industrial rooftop project for the international port operator DP World. Together with the project developer Phanes Group and its asset construction company Oryx Solar System Solutions LLC (Oryx), meteocontrol is implementing complex photovoltaic rooftop systems with a total installed volume of 25.8 MWp. meteocontrol designed the customized monitoring platform for these rooftop solar systems.

The DP World’s Solar Power Programme represents the largest solar rooftop-system project in the Middle East to date. During the first phase of the project 88,000 photovoltaic modules are being installed and will produce energy that equals the power supply to 3,000 households. The total installed output power amounts to 25.8 MWp. With its solar program, DP World is making a significant contribution to the planned expansion of clean-energy production in Dubai, operating under the „Shams Dubai“ initiative.

Custom-fit monitoring system, support and training
DP World’s first solar systems are already connected to the grid and meteocontrol is providing the monitoring. „The entire system portfolio is equipped with data loggers from the blue’Log X series and the VCOM (virtual control room). Therefore, it can be easily taken stock of and professionally monitored,“ explains Martin Schneider, Managing Director of meteocontrol. meteocontrol adapted the modularly constructed monitoring system to meet system as well as country-specific requirements, put it into operation and conducted training sessions at Oryx.

Monitoring „made in Germany“
meteocontrol is relying on the collaboration with experienced local companies during project execution. „This has tremendous advantages for the investor, off-taker and project developer alike. They receive proven high-tech solutions „made in Germany“ but also have the possibility to contact experts directly on site. With Oryx, we were able to collaborate with a competent partner in the United Arab Emirates,“ says Martin Schneider, clearly delighted. meteocontrol“s comprehensive monitoring solution is effective and cost-efficient for large photovoltaic projects such as that of DP World. „Once set up, additional solar systems can easily be integrated into the monitoring platform, allowing comprehensive surveillance at a glance. This reduces the amount of time and efforts associated with operation management,“ says Dr. Rainer Gegenwart, Managing Director for Projects, Phanes Group. „So far everything has been running according to plan. The collaboration with meteocontrol is very efficient, as it has been in operation and monitoring of other utility scale PV systems“. Future continued collaboration is targeted between Phanes Group and meteocontrol.

meteocontrol, EU headquarter based in Augsburg, Germany and APMEA headquarter based in Shanghai (China), with offices and branches in Chicago (U.S.A.), Lyon (France), Madrid (Spain) and Milan (Italy) offers energy and weather data management, yield reports, quality audits and technical due diligence as well as monitoring of PV systems of all sizes. meteocontrol has more than 40 years of expertise in renewable energy systems and has so far been involved in projects with a total investment volume of more than 13 billion Euros. In addition, meteocontrol is the market leader for professional remote monitoring of PV systems. meteocontrol monitors around 43,000 PV systems around the globe with a total power of over 12 GWp. meteocontrol is a member of SFCE Shunfeng International Clean Energy Limited.

Augsburg, 3/29/2017 – meteocontrol GmbH, a leading provider of independent photovoltaic monitoring systems, has officially entered into Japan market and launched a new company „meteocontrol Japan“ starting business operation in April. Meteocontrol Japan is a joint venture with Suntech Power Japan Corporation, a subsidiary of one of the major Chinese module manufacturers, Suntech Power. Meteocontrol Japan will offer the entire meteocontrol product portfolio – monitoring hardware and monitoring in the online portal and locally at SCADA Center – plus yield reports and technical consulting.

On the basis of a number of successfully completed projects in Japan, the two companies are intensifying their close cooperation with the newly formed joint venture. Its objective is to rigorously tap the Japanese PV market through product launches, nationwide sales and technical support.

„The joint venture with Suntech Japan is another important step in meteocontrol“s globalization strategy and will help us further improve our competitive position in Asia,“ explains Martin Schneider, Managing Director of meteocontrol. „Suntech has an extensive network in the region and has profound industry expertise, which makes it the ideal partner for meteocontrol. In addition, our collaboration is already well established.“

With its modularly structured monitoring systems consisting of data loggers and monitoring platforms, meteocontrol offers solutions for remote monitoring, grid feed-in management and on-site energy use optimization for every size of system and country-specific requirement. Yoshitaka Santoki, the future managing director of meteocontrol Japan, comments: „We look forward to the close cooperation with meteocontrol, and meteocontrol can provide strong products and services of their remote monitoring solutions into the Japanese market from their experience and knowledge in the energy market.“

Photovoltaics in South Africa: meteocontrol supplies monitoring system

Modular monitoring and control system for commercial rooftop projects

Photovoltaics in South Africa: meteocontrol supplies monitoring system

(Source: @ Sustainable Power Solutions (Pty) Ltd.)

Augsburg, 3/21/2017 – South Africa is increasingly focusing on renewable energies. By 2020, solar energy is forecast to expand to over 5.7 gigawatts. meteocontrol GmbH, one of the world’s leading companies for PV monitoring, offers a manufacturer-independent monitoring and control system for solar systems of all sizes with the blue’Log X series and the VCOM virtual control room. In cooperation with Sustainable Power Solutions (Pty) Ltd., Cape Town, meteocontrol has recently equipped four rooftop systems in South Africa with the monitoring system.

Due to the sharp rise in energy demand, the South African energy market has been confronted with bottlenecks for years. The main source of energy has always been coal. In order to ensure energy security and reduce emissions, the country’s government would like to focus more strongly on renewable energies in the future, especially on wind power and solar energy. Through numerous tenders within the framework of the „Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme“ (REIPPPP) and the high expansion target of 8.3 gigawatts by 2030, South Africa has strengthened its position as a PV growth market.

A professional monitoring system is required to ensure the smooth operation and maximum energy yield of PV systems. meteocontrol is one of the leading suppliers thereof and implements projects of all sizes throughout the world. The modular system of the blue’Log X series, which is tailored to individual systems, in combination with the VCOM virtual control room, reliably monitors solar systems, optimizes on-site energy consumption, and controls grid feed-in management. „This leads to a considerable reduction in terms of the time and cost expended on operation management. Furthermore, thanks to remote access, significantly fewer on-site operations are required,“ explains Martin Schneider, Managing Director of meteocontrol.

Together with the South African EPC partner Sustainable Power Solutions (SPS), meteocontrol has implemented this monitoring functionality in four rooftop systems in Cape Town and Bloemfontein with a total output of around 1,400 kilowatts. The project team has equipped one of the solar systems with Power Control for implementation of the zero percent grid feed-in (zero feed-in). The data loggers of the blue’Log-X series are compatible with current inverter manufacturers and enable reliable interaction for remote configuration and live values. Thaine Sasman, Head of Operations & Maintenance at Sustainable Power Solutions, is happy about the collaboration with meteocontrol: „At SPS we pride ourselves in realising optimal plant performance through effective monitoring and analysis of our solar project portfolio. The meteocontrol hardware and VCOM platform enables SPS a new level of performance excellence through these sophisticated tools and collaborative company support.“
