SKIDATA digitalizes lift ticket sales – say goodbye to long lines at the lift

SKIDATA digitalizes lift ticket sales - say goodbye to long lines at the lift

SKIDATA digitalizes lift ticket sales

The cooperation between SKIDATA and Pool Alpin is revolutionizing online lift ticket sales. IT expertise, software and hardware from SKIDATA together with the new „Starjack“ online platform make purchasing ski tickets on the internet a breeze, thus ushering in a new era without long waits at the ski lift. A total of 70 Austrian ski resorts have joined the online platform to date. „Our goal was to standardize online lift ticket sales throughout Austria, making it as convenient as possible for customers,“ says Franz Holzer, managing director of SKIDATA Austria.

After a two-year test phase in the Kitzbühel ski region, the new booking platform for lift tickets has been online since November 2016. The great reception by 2,500 customers all over Europe proves SKIDATA right: the process of purchasing ski passes urgently needed to be improved and digitalized. Innovative ideas and technical development from SKIDATA“s IT experts made this step possible.

Hit the slopes quickly and safely thanks to SKIDATA technology

„Starjack“ offers many advantages: a large selection (since so many Austrian ski resorts participate) and faster, easier lift ticket purchases. Plus there is just one single keycard – the Starjack Card – that is valid for all ski resorts. All of these factors mean fewer skiers buy their ski pass at the lift; the keycard is activated upon first entry to the ski resort – meaning shorter lines in the future.

Another essential aspect of the new online ticket portal is safety. In the past, skiers and snowboarders were anonymous but now they are registered with the Starjack Card. „If there is an accident, personal details can be called up to allow for fast, trouble-free assistance.“ SKIDATA Austria managing director Franz Holzer is convinced: „Ski slopes will be a much safer place.“

IT for everyday life – innovation and development at SKIDATA

„Starjack“ is just one of many innovative projects that have been developed by SKIDATA“s IT specialists. A career in Application Services could be perfect for you if you“d like to work together with prestigious clients in Austrian ski resorts. SKIDATA world wide: a look at SKIDATA India

This Austrian leader in innovation enjoys Bollywood-scale success

SKIDATA world wide: a look at SKIDATA India

Rechts: Amit Rana; Links: Nimish Sonawala

SKIDATA’s Indian success story began in 2007 with their cooperation with local partner Hinditron. Shortly thereafter, SKIDATA, a leading company in access and revenue management, won tenders for the airports in Bangalore and Hyderabad, the first privately operated airports in India. This formed the basis for the foundation of the joint venture between SKIDATA India and Hinditron in 2009. Nimish Sonawala, Hinditron Group’s Managing Director at the time, was appointed Managing Director for Skidata (India) Pvt. Ltd. in Mumbai.

In 2014 SKIDATA won the parking solution facilities tender for the Mumbai International Airport Terminal 2, the hub of the Indian financial and business world. Today SKIDATA’s customers in India include numerous large shopping centers and stadiums such as the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad and the Buddh International Circuit Formula One racetrack near New Delhi.

It’s not only successful bids for numerous projects that have given SKIDATA momentum in India, but also its own development center. In the same year with the opening of your development site in Bangalore a new important milestone was set.

SKIDATA Technologies Bangalore

Known as the Silicon Valley of the East, Bangalore is a dynamic market. Here you will find the largest software talent pool in India. Consequently, start-ups and blue chip companies from all over the world have established themselves in Bangalore. This also includes SKIDATA Technologies Bangalore, which started operations in 2014. With great enthusiasm, General Manager Amit Rana reports on his software development teams: „My teams are passionate about their work and take great pride in developing products. It is not always easy to assert yourself in the job market against all the big names, but what we lack in size we make up in passion and commitment.“ At SKIDATA Technologies Bangalore work very good developers that are designing the next generation cloud-based solutions using cutting edge technologies in the mobile and web space. It makes the team especially happy to see their SKIDATA solutions in use at different locations in India.
Developers who enjoy working in small focused teams on new technologies, while giving complete respect to work-life balance send their profile to SKIDATA by visiting http://www.skidata.com/en/career/open-positions/details-on-open-positions/detail/senior-software-engineer-fm.html

Close teamwork and regular exchange form the basis

International success is only possible when people of various nationalities cooperate and are open to cultural differences within the team. Intercultural cooperation works at SKIDATA: for example, software developers from Austria, France, India and the US collaborate together on new technologies in our R&D department. Although cooperating with others who are thousands of miles away is no problem these days, it is always special to get to know your colleagues in person. For this reason, when SKIDATA employees from India visited the company’s headquarters in Grödig near Salzburg in Austria during the early years, it was an exciting experience for everyone involved.

Work internationally and achieve success together – job vacancies and career opportunities at SKIDATA

If you have no fear of cultural diversity, a job at SKIDATA is perfect for you! Implement new ideas in our international development teams, experience the open corporate culture and work with reliable team players from all over the world. Our company offers employees all of this and much more.

With turnover of € 261 million, the Salzburg-based company SKIDATA continues its success of previous years: „We are very proud of what we have accomplished in recent years, especially in 2015. But we don’t want to rest on our laurels. In 2016 we will also do everything to reach our top goal: offering our customers the best access solutions and the best service,“ explains CEO Hugo Rohner. The year 2015 was characterized by remarkable success with regard to the internationalization of this innovative leader in access solutions and management. In addition to new subsidiaries in Tunisia and India, the number of countries in which SKIDATA solutions can be found has increased to 95. New locations in Dubai and Mexico are planned for 2016 and yet another goal for the year is 800 new installations around the world.

Market leader in North America and highlights for 2016

SKIDATA has been able to consolidate its position as market leader most notably in America. Since 2015 numerous airports, sports clubs and ski resorts have used access technology from Austria and the innovative loyalty program for frequent guests in particular has been remarkably well adopted. Two highlights are already certain: SKIDATA will be present at both the year’s huge soccer event in France and at the Olympics being held in Brazil.

Exciting career opportunities in Austria and abroad

Belkis Etz, Head of Human Resources at SKIDATA, sees a strong success factor in employees: „We can only achieve constant growth with dedicated employees. SKIDATA is always on the lookout for new talented team members for all departments, from development to customer service and administration. People re-entering the workforce and young professionals are welcome. Because of SKIDATA’s international expansion, there are always international career opportunities for our employees; for example stays abroad all over the world.“

Eine Partnervermittlung, die weltweit einzigartig ist

Christiane Haasler – Hollensteiner

Christiane Haasler – Hollensteiner in guten Händen.

Der Bericht erschien zuerst englisch im Magazin Life and Love.

Gain experience abroad with SKIDATA during your training

Apprenticeship and training at SKIDATA Switzerland – internship at the Austrian headquarters

Gain experience abroad with SKIDATA during your training

Gain experience abroad with SKIDATA during your training

Few apprentices have the opportunity to gain experience abroad during their training. Rahel, an apprentice at SKIDATA Switzerland, was therefore especially excited to have the chance to learn more about headquarters in Grödig near Salzburg, Austria. Rahel completed her commercial training at SKIDATA and joined her Austrian colleagues for two weeks. During her stay, she greatly appreciated the positive working atmosphere and her colleagues“ team spirit. She also gained professional knowledge during her time in Austria and has taken valuable experience back home with her.

Comprehensive insight into everyday work at SKIDATA

Rahel got to know about workflows in the Human Resources Department. Here topics such as recruiting, job ads and descriptions, onboarding and contract processes were discussed in detail: „I could look over my colleagues“ shoulders, make some suggestions and even perform some tasks on my own,“ reports the young Swiss woman.
Staff from other departments also gave Rahel a glimpse of their daily work: „This was a very exciting and informative time for me because, thanks to the excellent support, I got a new look at many processes and workflows. I particularly appreciated the strong team spirit and dedication of each and every employee – whether you are in Switzerland or Austria, you can feel the SKIDATA spirit everywhere.“

Cultural differences cannot be ruled out

Even though at first glance Austria and Switzerland seem like they don“t have many differences, Rahel noticed many details which differentiate the Swiss and Austrians: from language differences – „Mahlzeit“ (for „bon appetit“) in Austria compared to „än Guetä“ in Switzerland – to how people greet each other or even traditional clothing. For Rahel, this was an exciting stay abroad with many unfamiliar elements.

Here they learned more about the process of innovation at SKIDATA. The next student visit is just around the corner: on February 25 students from the Mittelschule Grödig will be visiting SKIDATA and will have the opportunity to get a closer look at the various skilled trades at our company. The students´ passion for technology should also be sparked.

A department introduces itself: Research & Development at SKIDATA

Frank (Senior Vice President of R&D) provides insight

A department introduces itself: Research & Development at SKIDATA

Research & Development at SKIDATA

Frank was VP of Embedded Security for the Kudelski Group, SKIDATA´s parent company, for five years before taking over management of product development at SKIDATA in September 2012. Prior to this, he was Infineon´s Design Center Director from 2000 until 2007. There he worked for the German development location in Nuremburg and thus gained extensive experience for this demanding task. In his free time, Frank is a passionate snowboarder and water sports fan.

In this interview he tells us which developments his team in Research and Development is currently working on and what is especially important to him when it comes to teamwork.

JOIN our TEAM – a diverse range of tasks in international teams

„The most up-to-date innovations, being one step ahead of the competition, reliable products, on-time solutions and developments of the highest quality – these are the things we commit ourselves to and the things which characterize work in R&D,“ says Frank during the interview.

Research & Development is responsible for the entire product development at SKIDATA. There is excitement for everyone in this range of tasks:

– Development of classic client server systems for the areas of parking management and personal access
– Development of cloud-based access solutions; for example, for destination management – that means connecting singular access and management solutions in the areas of events, mountain sports regions and parking management. Through this we make additional functions such as reservations, online ticket purchase, remote maintenance and surveillance of systems as well as B2C and B2B solutions available to our customers.
– Design and development of access hardware, such as access readers, barrier gates, parking columns and paying and vending machines
– Quality assurance for hardware, software and system solutions in order to guarantee flawless, reliable operation for customers.

Each member of the R&D team is part of the larger whole in new and ongoing developments or system integration of the many solutions over the entire lifecycle of a product.

R&D is positioned around the world with development locations in Grödig and Klagenfurt in Austria and teams in France, the USA and India – subdivided into the areas of software development, quality assurance, hardware development and project management office. „Even within the team it is becoming more international: meetings in English are part of our everyday work,“ explains Frank.

Thus R&D is currently in a phase of internationalization: staff in the software and system development departments, especially for cloud-based systems, project management, quality assurance, test automation, electronic component development and mechatronics, are always in demand. „When it comes to new employees, I value not only essential technical knowledge, but also very good English skills, social competence and eagerness to work in an international, intercultural team. Those who think in a solution-oriented manner and value professional teams and a modern development environment have come to the right place. These dynamics require that you always stay up-to-date with technical progress and are open to new, innovative ideas and change in international markets,“ continues Frank.

The great work environment; the high level of dedication and the staff´s passion for their work; the international environment; and technological challenges in rapidly changing times are what Frank enjoys the best about SKIDATA. „SKIDATA has great potential as an innovative company. Here you can really make a difference,“ Frank concludes.

SKIDATA Support Technicians Ensure Trouble-Free Access Around the World

It“s always winter somewhere: while anticipation for the 2014-2015 ski season is growing in Europe, ski regions in South America and Australia are already closing up for the season. Around the world, ski resorts implement access solutions from SKIDATA and use hardware and software made in Grödig near Salzburg for their access management. For this reason, our support technicians assist ski regions all over the world all year round and in Austria they even have ski season at the height of summer.
„Fifteen years ago a lot less was happening in summer. However, thanks to the increasingly international direction of the company, that has changed,“ reports SKIDATA employee Markus.

Second Level Support: a Small Team with Big Responsibility

The IT specialists in second level support are responsible for many activities at SKIDATA: in addition to conducting field tests, they provide the newest versions of software and brief employees in the respective ski regions. Since highly qualified field technicians ensure routine operation and install new versions of software on location, the second level support team can concentrate on areas which require special development expertise. A small group of support specialists, therefore, is in the position to take care of all ski systems around the world.

Gerald has been with SKIDATA since 1986 and has worked in support since 1996. He says about his tasks at SKIDATA: „In the past we also had the most innovative products on the market, but they were of course limited to the status of the technology back then. We constantly integrate the newest developments in electronics and information and network technology into our systems. And our customers profit from this, too: all updates and changes of all configurations are installed by us remotely – a huge convenience for our clients. Over the course of time, my responsibilities have become more complex but also more exciting.“

A Professional Ascent with a Great Career at SKIDATA

Would you like to not only use access solutions from SKIDATA, but also work on them? Current job openings in hardware and software development as well as in service management, IT and our hosting centre can be found at: http://www.skidata.com/karriere/offene-stellen.html .

In addition to jobs in Grödig near Salzburg, we also have international job openings and vacancies for positions outside of Austria.
