“Smart Summer” with SKIDATA

Young men and women aged 12 to 16 can take a peek at Salzburg´s most successful IT companies – including SKIDATA, the global market leader for access solutions – during the „Smart Summer“ technology and IT summer vacation weeks taking place from July 17 to August 4, 2017. On July 20, 2017, SKIDATA invites enthusiastic IT up-and-comers to their headquarters in Grödig, Austria. With the intention of awakening curiosity and excitement for technical professions, young people have the opportunity to learn more about the company and get involved themselves.

„Program participants can look forward to taking apart a computer and putting it back together, getting a closer look into the world of software development and much more. They should see how exciting technical jobs are and that math is important in more places than just the classroom,“ says Barbara Köglhaider, SKIDATA Recruiting Specialist. Responsible for junior staff development at SKIDATA, she and her colleagues are eagerly looking forward to the event on July 20, 2017.

Hands-on IT, technology and software at SKIDATA

SKIDATA will show students the variety in IT jobs in order to get them excited about a technology, software or IT apprenticeship or internship. After a snack in the cafeteria, they are treated to a company tour with a first glimpse at the world of SKIDATA ticketing systems and access solutions. Then, the rookies take part in workshops in which they learn about various job descriptions and training opportunities at SKIDATA. Students experience first-hand how exciting training in an IT profession can be. „What does a software developer do? How is a computer built? The participants get answers to their questions and we really hope that this hands-on event inspires them to choose career training in technology,“ explains Köglhaider.

Fit for the future with a technical apprenticeship or internship with SKIDATA

Apprenticeships with passion at SKIDATA

Apprentices at SKIDATA enjoy comprehensive training that goes far beyond the dual vocational training system. In-house training courses at SKIDATA give these future professionals comprehensive know-how for an international career. SKIDATA surprises its apprentices with training on a level playing field and gives young professionals the chance not only to put their skills to use from the very beginning, but to prove them as well: just as they did at the EuroSkills 2016 vocational skills competition in Gothenburg, Sweden, for example.

SKIDATA apprentice Pascal – state champion in electronics – proudly represented the Austrian team at EuroSkills 2016 in December. With 14 medals, this Austrian rookie racked up his third win in a row at the competition. „It was a great experience to take part in this competition among 500 apprentices from all over Europe and to meet other young people who are pursuing their profession with as much passion as I am,“ said Pascal, who was impressed by the event.

Apprenticeships at SKIDATA: entry to a career with a passion

It is this passion for their career that SKIDATA wants to give all apprentices. Motivation and recognition, personal freedom and career opportunities, as well as respectful teamwork characterize career training at SKIDATA. This is a basis that strengthens the joy of learning and passion for their vocation. At the moment, around 20 trainees are being trained in seven various skilled trades: electronics, media design, mechatronics, information technologies technician, information technologies computer specialist, office administration and operating logistics clerk.

Apprenticeships with added value: SKIDATA training for apprentices and trainers

At SKIDATA trainees receive excellent professional training in which all apprentices support each other. More senior apprentices pass on their knowledge to junior apprentices. In addition to dual vocational training, there is in-company training in personal development for apprentices, as well as for trainers. Because in the world of work, you need more than just your technical knowledge. For this reason, SKIDATA apprentice and trainer development courses teach soft skills in the areas of communication, time management and motivation.

For high-quality apprenticeships – training for instructors and apprenticeships

Motivation, time and appreciation are essential for a successful apprenticeship

For high-quality apprenticeships - training for instructors and apprenticeships

For high-quality apprenticeships – training for instructors and apprenticeships

What“s the best way to find qualified new employees? Train them yourself! At SKIDATA the training of apprentices is taken especially seriously. In addition to providing them with professional knowledge, the company places high value on apprentices“ personal development. And it“s not just within the company that this dedication to junior staff is honored: in 2012, this innovative leader for access solutions with headquarters in Grödig was named the best company for apprentices by the Salzburg Economic Chamber. SKIDATA has been training apprentices since 1986 and in 2009 was named a state approved apprenticeship company („staatlich ausgezeichneten Lehrbetrieb“) by the Republic of Austria.

Apprentice training: an apprenticeship is more than just knowledge

In order to make the successful transition into their career as easy as possible for our apprentices, SKIDATA regularly holds training for apprentices. This training deals with topics such as „communication and conflict“ or „motivation and time“. Our apprentices develop their soft skills over two days in summer and on a follow-up day in winter. Apprentice training consists of a total of three modules and one module is completed in each year of their apprenticeship. After successful completion, apprentices receive a certificate. This year a training series was completed for the first time. In this series, a special focus is placed on professional training; for example, units of instruction are frequently held in the areas of electronics and mechatronics in which more senior apprentices can teach less experienced apprentices, and the trainer is available to answer questions about current subject matter from their trade school. This means the knowledge they have acquired goes beyond the content scheduled in their dual training plan.

Annual instructor training at SKIDATA

More than 20 apprentices are currently being trained in seven different skilled trades at SKIDATA. The up-and-coming professionals in the areas of electronics, mechatronics, IT technology, IT informatics, office administration, operating logistics and media design are guided by approximately 10 instructors from the various departments. „I have been responsible for apprenticeships in the areas of electronics and mechatronics at SKIDATA for 20 years – a challenging yet very wonderful task. It is a special concern of mine to give the apprentices the best possible preparation for their career and to do so we always take new approaches,“ says Wolfgang Wagenhofer, Senior Manager for Hardware Development / Test Equipment and an apprentice trainer who puts his heart and soul into this task. Through our instructor training, apprentice trainers are given targeted support for their daily work with SKIDATA apprentices.

This year“s focus was on increasing motivation, communication and time management. Forums are frequently held for both apprentices and trainers, giving everyone the opportunity to exchange ideas and thoughts about current apprentice topics.

Every year interested, motivated teens have the chance to start their career at SKIDATA by beginning an apprenticeship. Free apprenticeship positions and many more details about training at SKIDATA can be found at http://www.skidata.com/en/career/career-via-apprenticeship.html .
Plus, if you“d like to learn more about apprenticeships at SKIDATA, visit us at the BIM in Salzburg on November 19 and 20.

Is technology a girls

Girls‘ Day at SKIDATA

As part of the EuRegio Girls‘ Day, many companies in the Salzburg-Berchtesgadener Land-Traunstein area give female students the opportunity to experience a day in a job not typically associated with women. Many young women are still reluctant to take on training in technical, mechanical or scientific fields. The intention of Girls‘ Day is to pique their interest in these professions and encourage young women not to restrict their career planning because of prejudices. SKIDATA will have a total of 10 spots for young women.

First-hand experience: SKIDATA apprentices and employees tell about their training and careers

Young women who visit SKIDATA on Girls‘ Day will learn not only about the company and its products, but will also get to know young people who are completing an apprenticeship or training in a technical field. They will get a special look at various technical departments at SKIDATA: IT, quality assurance and test equipment production. Trainees will present their apprenticeships and experienced staff will give participants insight into different career opportunities and answer their questions.

If you like to work with your hands and appreciate variety in your work, perhaps you“d be interested in an apprenticeship as a mechatronic technician. Mechatronic trainees plan both mechanical and electronic test equipment. SKIDATA also has another exciting apprenticeship position in electronics. „As an electronics apprentice you should have abstract thinking skills, the ability to concentrate and ingenuity. What makes this apprenticeship so interesting is working with the most modern and innovative electronics,“ explains Wolfgang, Team Leader in Test Equipment Production. Gain experience abroad with SKIDATA during your training

Apprenticeship and training at SKIDATA Switzerland – internship at the Austrian headquarters

Gain experience abroad with SKIDATA during your training

Gain experience abroad with SKIDATA during your training

Few apprentices have the opportunity to gain experience abroad during their training. Rahel, an apprentice at SKIDATA Switzerland, was therefore especially excited to have the chance to learn more about headquarters in Grödig near Salzburg, Austria. Rahel completed her commercial training at SKIDATA and joined her Austrian colleagues for two weeks. During her stay, she greatly appreciated the positive working atmosphere and her colleagues“ team spirit. She also gained professional knowledge during her time in Austria and has taken valuable experience back home with her.

Comprehensive insight into everyday work at SKIDATA

Rahel got to know about workflows in the Human Resources Department. Here topics such as recruiting, job ads and descriptions, onboarding and contract processes were discussed in detail: „I could look over my colleagues“ shoulders, make some suggestions and even perform some tasks on my own,“ reports the young Swiss woman.
Staff from other departments also gave Rahel a glimpse of their daily work: „This was a very exciting and informative time for me because, thanks to the excellent support, I got a new look at many processes and workflows. I particularly appreciated the strong team spirit and dedication of each and every employee – whether you are in Switzerland or Austria, you can feel the SKIDATA spirit everywhere.“

Cultural differences cannot be ruled out

Even though at first glance Austria and Switzerland seem like they don“t have many differences, Rahel noticed many details which differentiate the Swiss and Austrians: from language differences – „Mahlzeit“ (for „bon appetit“) in Austria compared to „än Guetä“ in Switzerland – to how people greet each other or even traditional clothing. For Rahel, this was an exciting stay abroad with many unfamiliar elements.

Great success for SKIDATA employees: Christoph and Julius impress with top graduations

WKS-Franz Neumayr

The Salzburg Economic Chamber honors performance in education and further development

You simply have to be proud of these employees: the ambition and dedication shown by SKIDATA employees Christoph and Julius is appreciated not only within our company, but also by the Salzburg Economic Chamber. As part of a large event that took place on November 4 at the Kavalierhaus Klessheim, young people who performed exceptionally well in education or further development received due recognition. Among them this year were two SKIDATA employees, Christoph and Julius.

Impressive dedication to education and further development

Christoph prevailed against about 28,000 others to become the WIFI graduate of the year. The IT and communications technician for communications electronics attended all WIFI electronics courses and his extensive expertise is impressive. Julius, a software developer at SKIDATA, also did excellent work at the University of Applied Sciences and belongs to one of the seven best University of Applied Sciences graduates in Salzburg.

Work with the best: careers at SKIDATA

Employees like Christoph and Julius who approach their career with determination and a desire to learn are the foundation of our success at SKIDATA in Grödig. Whether for apprenticeships, required internships or jobs in departments such as hardware development, software development, IT or project management: convincing applications from qualified and motivated students, university students and professionals are always welcome.
