Gigabit data logger for high-speed and ADAS applications

Validation of intelligent radar sensors improves the safety of autonomous driving

Gigabit data logger for high-speed and ADAS applications

Real traffic situations can be stored and replicated repeatedly in the laboratory. (Source: embedded brains GmbH)

For the development and validation of systems for autonomous vehicle management, real traffic scenarios are usually simulated and tested in the laboratory. Since pre-processing is carried out directly in the sensor front end with modern radar sensors, this can result in a serious gap in coverage during the testing and validation of object detection. In addition, the optimization of algorithms for testing in real traffic is very complex and seldom reliable.

The DP²4R Gigabit data logger collects raw radar signals between the sensor and preprocessing. The stored signals can then be fed back via the same interface. This allows real traffic situations to be replicated repeatedly in the laboratory and to optimize the processing chain of radar signals. The testing and validation of radar signal processing can be moved from the road to the laboratory. This saves time and allows the reliability of the data processing to be documented.

The special approach of the DP²4R data logger is to read raw data by means of a data head directly coupled to the radar sensor, store it and later feed it back in the laboratory. This requires a high data rate of more than 300Mbit/s per sensor, which is why these data can not be transferred via the system bus.

For practical aspects of data analysis, apart from raw sensor data, other context-specific data like pictures from a camera and GPS position data can be recorded with synchronous precision.

The so-called „head unit“ is based on a standardized unit which is specifically tailored to each sensor in order to enable safe and interference-free signal scanning as well as re-injection of the raw data. The sampled information is transmitted together with a time stamp via an internal interface to the central unit.

The central unit consists of a car PC with a special insert card. Up to four head units with a cable length of 7m can be connected to it. An even larger number of head units can be connected via a second or third card slot.

For data storage, there are several „hot-plugged“ SSD drives, which can be used to record data of any length by changing the media during recording. Other arrangements of storage media, such as aggregated RAID systems, can also be easily implemented. The entire hardware has been designed for the environmental conditions within the vehicle.

The system is controlled via Ethernet with a machine-readable xhtml interface or a web browser. The external data transfer is carried out via Gigabit Ethernet or through media change.

The concept has been designed for future extension with additional sensors with a larger number of antennas and higher radar frequency.

Emissions analysis for the highest demands

The increasing sense of environmental awareness around the globe is demanding higher standards for environmental monitoring.

Emissions analysis for the highest demands

NOx electrodeless discharge lamp

Heraeus Noblelight has developed an easy to use, plug & play light solution based on NOx light technology, for very accurate measurement of NOx and other pollution gases.

Environmental monitoring is used to describe the various processes, tests and investigations that are carried out in order to monitor the state of the environment and its changes, to understand and protect it. One of the major monitoring areas is air quality monitoring, which requires highly accurate measuring instruments. Heraeus Noblelight“s new light solution is developed for high accuracy, fast and real-time NOx measurement, together with very low operating costs.

The Heraeus plug & play light solution
NOx instrument development based on UV Resonance Absorption Spectroscopy (UV-RAS) has been difficult in the past, due to challenges in tuning the UV-lamp operation within its environment to optimize lifetime and intensity.

The NOx electrodeless discharge lamp (EDL) is a lamp with N2, O2 gas fill that emits a spectrum in the wavelength range between 200 nm to 600 nm. NOx-specific spectral lines in the 200 nm region can be used for the detection of NO and NO2, H2S, NH3, SO2 and other pollution gases.
Heraeus Noblelight“s new plug & play light solution for reliable NOx measurement is a lamp module that offers a pre-tuned UV-light source in a stable environment to ensure optimized performance. The NOx lamp module has an integrated EDL and comes with the corresponding power supply combined in a box. This makes integration into an OEM UV-RAS system very easy and cost efficient, plus light source replacement at End Of Life is by simply replacing the module in the field.

Fast and very accurate
High accuracy and stability are required in any measurement process. The new NOx module delivers both and even more. It is easy and effective in use, and without the need for consumables, it ensures very low operating costs. Enabling fast and accurate absorption measurements without cross-interference from water and CO2 , it saves time during the measurement process and makes dynamic (real time) measurements possible with high measurement confidence – a real competitive advantage for UV-RAS compared to other technologies.

Different methods to measure NOx
NOx is a generic term for the nitrogen oxides NO and NO2. It reacts in our atmosphere to form a wide variety of toxic products, as well as supporting the formation of ground-level (tropospheric) ozone.
Sources of NOx are predominantly man-made: burning fossil fuels for energy generation, such as coal-,oil- and gas-fired power stations, refuse incineration, some chemical processes and vehicle fuels, like modern diesel cars, used for land, water and air transportation.

Common methods for measuring NOx include sensor technologies based on chemiluminescence and electrochemical techniques.
This requires conversion of NO2 to NO for measurement or calculation of the NO2 content based on an assumed NO:NO2 ratio. In addition, NOx can be measured with infrared radiation, which can be affected by the content of H2O and CO2 in the sample. Direct UV absorption measurement of both NO and NO2 is the more precise way to measure total NOx for continuous emissions monitoring, and measurement in the UV-region avoids the influence of H2O and CO2.

LumaSense introduces Bundled Solution for Air-Exchange Analysis with Multipoint Sampler and Doser

Lumasense’s new easy-to-use solution for measuring airflow ventilation and purification efficiency.

LumaSense introduces Bundled Solution for Air-Exchange Analysis with Multipoint Sampler and Doser

Air-Exchange Analysis with Multipoint Sampler and Doser and Photoacoustic Gas Monitor.

SANTA CLARA (CA), Sep 12, 2017 – LumaSense Technologies, Inc., https://www.lumasenseinc.com/ , experts in gas measurement, introduces the Innova 1403 multipoint gas sampler and gas doser for air-exchange and flow analysis.

The bundled system solution includes the Innova 1403, the Innova 1412i Photoacoustic Gas Monitor, and 7650 Application Software. Two variations of the system solution are available: Innova 3750-2 Basic Ventilation System Dual Gas and Innova 3750-5 Basic Ventilation System Multi Gas (for up to 5 different gas compounds).

Does the air diffuser works propper? Do you like to improve the air quality? This ventilation solution is specifically designed to accurately dose tracer gas and quantify its distribution throughout the complex ventilation systems found in modern high energy efficiency buildings, rooms and workplace environments including offices, hospitals, and laboratories.

„Innova products are recognized as the gold standard for indoor air quality measurements. Their unique capabilities measure air exchange and purification efficiency with unparalleled accuracy and allow tracing of minute levels of contaminants,“ explained Gregor Hsiao, LumaSense Gas Product Manager.

Ventilation Monitoring: The Innova 1403 can deliver either SF6 or R124a tracer-gas up to help measure the effectiveness of a ventilation system. The user sets up the sampler and the doser unit by
selecting up to 6 sample channels and 1 out of 3 doser channels.

In an air-exchange analysis system, the doser marks the supply air of the room with a known amount of tracer gas. The sampler system then takes a sample of the return-air from the room and delivers the sample to the 1412i for analysis. While the 1412i performs the analysis, the 1403 takes the next sample from the room. The 7560 software uses the tracer gas concentrations measured by the 1412i to calculate the ventilation system performance based on a few simple user inputs.

Trace gas, ventilation monitoring, photoacoustic analyser and monitoring, gas dosing system – the Innova 1403 is an integral part of a system approach to monitoring and measuring the effectiveness of ventilation systems often found in building materials, passenger cabins, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) solutions, or extraction systems (such as fume hoods). In addition, quantifying air exchange rates and identifying the sources of indoor air pollutants for new green building designs allows for optimizing ventilation for worker health and productivity while maintaining energy efficiency.

Using FCS is like a turbo booster for Forensics

With growing complexities in digital forensics an efficient investigation can become quite a limited assignment.

Using FCS is like a turbo booster for Forensics

Digital evidence has to be extracted and analyzed so that it makes sense

Law enforcement and border protection often needs to deal with digital evidence hidden in hard drives, smartphones or small flash devices. Extracting the data is only one step inside the long journey to proving guilt or getting ahead criminals before they can complete their crimes.

This is where ACATO is working on providing the 360 degree command system that will empower investigators and forensic laboratories to not only get more out of their existing toolsets but also create an opportunity to go beyond standard procedures.

Making the world a safer place is the mission of ACATO. In order to improve the status quo the development of the „forensic command suite“ is more than just some connectivity tool.

It consists of specialized modules that can deal with different aspects of crime. It helps to identify best approach for chipoffs. Analyzing of large quantities of manipulated videos using special features is done before then going in deep with 3rd party tools so that one can see if the sampling has delivered some red herrings.

The tool can automatically find files hidden in many locations of a drive based on the settings of the researcher. Furthermore this does not stop at locating hidden data inside other files. A separate module focuses on identifying types of digital attacks.

In some cases, financial crimes can be done using obfuscated identities. A special feature can analyze data in relation to a variety of codes that can show hidden identities. The accompanying databases assist the system in dealing with workflows that are needed to respond to particular criminal strategies.
Since money laundry is also a side crime accompanying the main crime this requires to blow away the fog that has been deliberately placed in financial transactions to fool researchers. In field of investment related fraud and misrepresentation, the FIA module helps to deal with joint venture fraud and mutual fund investments that can also be in a form of direct investment in a venture.

The Financial Investment Audit Inspection tool can work with a large amount of investment transactions to identify false profitability claims and tax evasion. Nevertheless, these tools still require well trained officers to make the game changer in their area of operation.

This forensic command suite is not a tool designed to spy on the public. It is supposed to help investigators protect the society against criminal activities. Nevertheless, this tool is only exclusively available to authorities and large enterprises that have a specialized team of forensics experts.

ACATO provides forensic laboratory services for courts, lawyers, accused, police forces and companies around the world. It help extract evidence from locked, damaged or deleted smartphones.

High light output stability for precise analysis – for a safer environment

„All together it is about climate protection“ is the national motto of the „World Environment Day 2015“, which the UN calls on June 5th, every year to stimulate the worldwide awareness of the environment.

High light output stability for precise analysis - for a safer environment

Heraeus 5 W xenon flash lamp modules are designed to offer excellent performance.

„All together it is about climate protection“ is the national motto of the „World Environment Day 2015″, which the UN calls on June 5th, every year to stimulate the worldwide awareness of the environment. Clean water is essential to life. That is why it needs to be protected against contamination or pollution. Heraeus“ specialty light sources allow efficient analysis of water and air quality or soils. They support precise analytical results – for a safer environment.

Continuous online measurements of water quality and emissions are a growing market driven by increasing environmental regulations. UV-VIS spectroscopy has been established as a fast and precise technique to detect a large number of relevant substances. However, these applications are even more demanding on the light source with respect to size, life time and reliability. The new Heraeus 5 W xenon flash modules match exactly the optical requirements of analytical instruments.

Whilst xenon lamps are suitable for many white light industrial applications, the high quality and high performance range of the new Heraeus 5 W xenon flash lamp modules is expressly intended for photometric instrumentation applications. These are for example UV-VIS and fluorescence spectroscopy, liquid chromatography and thin film measurement, but also semiconductor inspection or medical analysers. All applications require precise and stable analytical results. Efficiency, maintenance and cost reduction become a major aspect by choosing the right light source for the application.

Heraeus 5 W xenon flash lamp modules convert electrical energy into high intensity light flashes in a very efficient way. Due to carefully selected electrode materials and design, they provide a broad continuous UV-VIS spectrum from deep UV to near Infrared (190 to 1100 nm) with very good flash to flash stability. Single xenon light source design offers a clear cost and life time advantage over the combination of deuterium and tungsten halogen lamps.

Its high light output stability and low noise delivers precise analytical results even at high operating frequencies. The output intensity exhibits a good linearity to electrical input power for easy scalability of the signal.

For an easy integration and low maintenance

The new 5 W xenon flash lamp modules are designed as a plug & play solution. They comprise of a xenon flash lamp, power supply and connections. All fully enclosed in a modern designed metal housing with 9-pin D-sub connector for faster instrument design. The xenon flash lamp modules are compact stand-alone units that can be operated on 12 Volt or 24 Volt input and up to a lamp power consumption of 5 Watt.

Their long service life, more than 109 flashes, make them the ideal and cost efficient light source for UV-VIS and fluoresences spectroscopy, as well as online process monitoring or thin film measurement. The operating range with its voltage and frequency limits is dependent on the discharge capacitor size.

Light modules that exacly match the optical requirents of the system

Heraeus develops a wide variety of 5 W xenon flash lamp modules with different beam options and connectors. „In addition to standard options, like side-on and end-on emitting systems or different electrode orienations, xenon flash lamp modules can also be equipped with SMA fibre connectors“, explains Torsten Jenek, product manager for xenon flash lamps and modules at Heraeus Noblelight in Cambridge. „That efficiently couples the light of the module into the optical fibre and makes integration into analytical equipment even more simple and fast.“
